Search Bar in the Project Browser

Search Bar in the Project Browser

Pretty self-explanatory. Lary Page did it in the 90s... You would think they could figure this out by now.

This is already a feature, but if you want more of a search output and or find/replace function than yes Autodesk needs to add it. Otherwise you can use the addin RushForth Tools > Project Setup.

@stefan_gokstorp  You have to admit the search feature within the project browser is pretty lacking right now. I will have to check out RushForth Tools @mikewp90

if i got to chose family system would be plocked away from project browser and be cloud based. links would get thier own place.

ctrl - F would do it works after that i rather see them fix those parts then the search bar.

@jcarson44SWA , please be more clear and specific about your wish. I don't use Rushforth tools, I don't think it helps anyone when you refer to it out of of the blue.

"CTRL + F" works mostly fine for the 500+  units residential projects I work on, so what's your point?

The families naming protocol is the weak part that causes me most trouble to find what I'm looking for, as our projects are shared and modeled with other architect offices. The Revit tool is not the problem, the consortiums workflows are, but, you know, rush is our standard pace of work... And it won't change anytime soon! 😉

If you see a benefit eventually gained with a search bar, please explain.

Being clear in this forum will help reduce the posts, thus sending more precise requests to Autodesk (supposing they even care for it...)

Best wishes,

Matthias

@l_steele Thank you for that additional feedback. This is something our teams are investigating.

@kimberly_fuhrman-jones The original idea did mention Larry Page. The new search bar does not leave the project browser though and only searches those contents. A bit as though Larry's algorithms stuck with pages already indexed. Your new search feature might go through named scope boxes, parameters, parameter values and everything that is the Revit file database. Ah, and I could not find the entry by @l_steele you were refering to - has that user changed her or his username?

Shifted to 2024 recently and found myself not like this Search Bar very much, it shows everything with key words, but hide all others after search, thus I lost context where these items are. for example, I just want to find a sheet behind where I am at, not the views above, I also want the found items to be highlighted so I know where it is located in Browser, but it shows me everything with keywords, including views, legends, schedules, families, groups, what a mess. Plus the old search tool by right-click was removed. I hope when Autodesk add a new tool, old tool can be remained if it's not absolutely redundant.

Shifted to 2024 recently and I dont like this new Search Bar very much

Maybe both search methods can be useuful and coexist

CTRL+F (pops up the tiny dialgo box will jump to your desire view), and the search bar will filters the views whit your
