Title: Revit native PDF export does not correctly support variable font weights
Versions tested: Revit 2026.1 (26.1.0.35) and Revit 2027.0.
There appears to be an issue with variable / multi-weight fonts in Revit's native PDF exporter.
The issue is not specific to one font family. It can be reproduced with variable fonts providing multiple weights through a wght axis.
Test 1 – Variable font, Regular
A variable font is selected in a Revit Text Type and used with its regular weight.
Revit display: correct
Native PDF export: correct
Test 2 – Variable font + Revit Bold option
The same font is used and the "Bold" checkbox is enabled in the Text Type, or text is manually formatted as Bold inside a text note.
Revit display: correct Bold weight
Native PDF export: Bold weight is lost; text is exported using the regular weight.
Test 3 – Other weights (ExtraBold, etc.)
Selecting another weight/face of the same variable/multi-weight family can result in the wrong weight being exported or in font substitution (Arial observed during testing).
Test 4 – Microsoft Print to PDF
The same Revit content printed through Microsoft Print to PDF produces the expected font weight correctly.
This indicates that the font itself and Revit's on-screen rendering can handle the requested weight, while the issue appears specific to Revit's native PDF export pipeline.
Additional test
A static version of the same variable font was generated with conventional Regular (400) and Bold (700) TTF faces. With these static fonts:
Regular: correct
Bold checkbox: correct in Revit native PDF export
Therefore the issue appears related to how the native PDF exporter resolves variable font wght values / font faces. Traditional static Regular/Bold families work correctly.
Expected behavior: The native PDF exporter should preserve the font weight displayed in Revit and correctly resolve variable font weights without substituting another font.
Reproduced in Revit 2026.1, Revit 2026.5 and Revit 2027.0.
