Replace Selected Text with Typed Text

Replace Selected Text with Typed Text

In a text box, when selecting a block of text to replace, typing new text does not replace the selected block of text; in fact, it does nothing at all. In order to replace the selected text, you must first delete or backspace to clear the selected block of text, then start typing. This is different behavior than every other text editor in every other application and is so very counter-intuitive. Please, update the text box so that selected text will be replaced by typed text like every other text editor in every other application on planet earth for consistency and sanity, please, and thank you.

It works as expected for me.

@NLFlowersHMC I think you need to illustrate your idea a little, because I could not replicate the described behaviour in Revit 2026.1. Does it concern 'back'-versions that require a dot-release amendment? Does this concern the standard text note command or any property that has a line of text or number as input?

I'm not sure I could recreate this on command, but I have seen this behavior before as well. Its not all of the time though. Is this constant for you @NLFlowersHMC, or only occasional?

There are definitely issues with the text editor with editing existing text, here is one example.
The editor will not recognise adding text or spaces to the marked locations, type away  (including spaces) as much as you like and nothing happens.

To replicate this do a hard return where shown, then exit the editor.

Now try and type something at the very end of the first line or at the very beginning of the second line.
The same error can sometimes happen at the beginning of the text on the first line as well...

The solution is to start using the delete key until the editor deletes the hard return and then its happy days but its extremely annoying to keep having to do this on a regular occurance.

I could not reproduce your issue at the moment but I agree the text editor definitely has issues and sometimes they happen and sometimes they don't which makes them annoying as they are not consistent.

The issue of typing and nothing happens will happen to me sometimes when I have selected a text box and before I started typing my cursor drifted away when I let go of my mouse and now it is outside the boundary of the text box.

If the cursor remains inside the boundary my keystrokes will show up.

Also I have had it happen sometimes where after a hard return if I hit "backspace" it will act like the "delete" key and remove stuff after instead of behind the position.
