Remove double-click Sheet Title rename popup

Remove double-click Sheet Title rename popup

Currently when double- clicking on a sheet name in the Project Browser, there is a substantial chance that doing so will open a rename/renumber dialogue popup (see attached) instead of opening the sheet.

Most Revit users do not have to rename or renumber their sheets very often, and even if they did this feature is inconsistent and so is not a good way to go about doing it. Most Revit users double-click on sheets in the project browser to open those sheets. Having to close a sheet rename popup two-thirds of the time when you just wanted to open a sheet is distracting and slows Revit workflow. The feature wherein double-clicking on a sheet in the Project Browser opens this popup should be disabled or made opt-in.

Agreed it is totally inconsistent with renaming other views.

However I disagree there is a high chance of this happening. This happens to me maybe 5% of the time when opening sheets.

If your double click is slow enough, it will happen a lot I think but if you double click with decent speed it rarely occurs!

Not saying I disagree.  I probably double-click it wrong more often that I get it right.

But in case people aren't aware:

The speed of the double-click is controlled by Windows and can be set in Mouse Properties

I'm with @CFNBen but don't see why this couldn't be per user preference in Options>User Interface>Double-click Options.

I agree that it can be frustrating and it happens to all of us at one time or another.  I have gotten used to making the double-clicking speed regulated by Windows/Mouse Controls faster and this has decreased the amount of accidental double-clicking mishaps that would have generally occurred otherwise.

I also don't like the feature. There's now way to turn it off in the interface, but luckily you can at least turn it off in the revit.ini : https://bimchapters.blogspot.com/2019/07/turning-off-double-click-rename.html

ALSO annoyingly it happens when clicking on anything in the Project Browser. . . an end to such childishness! Provide an option that addresses the many other stupid instances of 2Xclicking!

I agree that this needs to be an option to disable. I frequently switch between sheets and get the pop-up frequently. Changing sheets names or numbers isn't done frequently, and I usually do so on the sheet or schedule where I can see the entire title at once. It's very frustrating to be reviewing multiple sheets and get the popup multiple times in a row.

Totally loathe the double click rename feature, its not a feature, it's the most annoying hindrance in the user interface!

Why don't we simplify opening views and sheets by using a single left mouse click, no more double clicking. Show me a hyperlink that you need to double click on things to open it?  If you want to rename a view or the sheet, use the right mouse button as its intended...

Status changed to: Implemented

We are pleased to say that this has been implemented in Revit 2026.1! Thank you for your contribution to improving Revit!
