Phase demand loads and current in panel schedule

Phase demand loads and current in panel schedule

The panel schedules need to indicate demand load and current per phase. This could be done by adding two more rows under "Total Load" (which shows total calculated load per phase) and "Total Amps" (calculated amps per phase).  The demand values are important part of the electrical design process and prevent overloading of the single phase on the panel. The values could be named "Demand Load" and "Demand Amps."

>> Actually, the demand factor is not determined per phase, but is rather determined for the whole panel and then applied per phase.  I haven't taken the time to review my previous comments to see whether I let you astray; I'm sorry if I did.

Yes, key difference.. thanks for clarifying.. taking a look at @oduday's example, however, it is computing per phase.. I've summarized below.  @oduday 's results are 40-50% higher per phase in this particular case.

@scbunker could you check my math below (labeled scbunker method) meets your expectations for this case?  If what I have below does, then that 'Calculation A' is relevant as it sets the basis for the ratio being computed for each phase.  If not, then I'm still struggling to understand.

@oduday can you reflect on what @scbunker and my ? above re: driers and comment?

I went back and reviewed previous comments. It's been a while.

I must say I disagree with oduday's calculation methods. In Calculation A, he's saying that there is 20511 VA of receptacle demand load on the panel (which is correct), but then he's also applying Calculation B, which indicates that there is 29952 VA of receptacle demand load on the panel. Both can't be true.

I'll clarify that Calculation A is irrelevant for reporting on a panel schedule. You don't really need that info on the panel schedule. You do need to calc that demand factor percentage. Though, I've seen these overall panel numbers reported on many firm's panel schedules, so not everyone agrees with me there. I would show demand per classification per phase. Those are the real numbers. I show total panel demand and demand current as a shortcut only.

I'll take a look at your calc examples later.

@Martin__Schmid, the numbers in your spreadsheet look good to me.
