Option to show stairs in true representation in RCP views

Sometimes when you are designing a grand staircase, it is useful to document the underside of the stair.  Currently, there is no good way to display an accurate representation of a stair's underside in an RCP view.  I propose that an option be added to a stair's type properties that toggles between traditional RCP view or actual accurate representation of the modeled stair in RCP view.

Upvoted. I'm actually surprised this is still an issue considering how far back this issue dates. I would be interested to hear if there is any "official" explanation as to why Revit hides stair elements when in an Reflected Ceiling Plan, or why they are specifically avoiding addressing this gap.

It should be possible via transparency or other means to allow treads and landings to be visible in an RCP. If you tab-select a stair, you can actually cycle through the various pieces and select them, but they can only display temporarily. This is what we want to see! Even if there was a subcategory of whatever is masking the bottom of the stair to be able to turn off, that would work. In this case, this a stair in the middle of a space, not having a door to a "stairwell" makes it very ambiguous as to what direction the stair is going or if there are intermediate landings on this level that require lighting.

Since it is an UP view, Set the view range of the crop region to the level  below stair with depth unlimited...this should show u the riser/tread ... add a filter to override stairs in  view to hidden/dashed.

Okay that does indeed work to show the stair in the way that we would want. The problem then is just how that effects presentation of MEP Elements that we need to show around the stair. The output from that solution puts all elements within that region to the "<Beyond>" Line style regardless of if it is above or below the stair, they all will appear the same:

Since this is an "Up" View, the element above the stair should be showing as <Beyond>/Hidden while the fixture below the stair should be full tone; if you were looking up from under the stair, that is the first thing you would see. Moving a fixture outside the Plan Region shows it as full tone, but this is the one I want to show Hidden being above the stair landing:

So it is a nice workaround Architecturally perhaps, but we need to get this exact stair presentation without the Plan region, then these elements should show correctly. That's pointing at ADesk, not you RDAOU 😁

I'm struggling with this topic. I've been trying @RDAOU's method of using a plan region, but it's not working for me. The <Above> Supports on each side and the <Above> Outlines are visible, but not the treads & risers or any other part of the stair. The run of the stair will high-light for pre-select when the cursor moves over any tread/riser and I can select it, but I can't do anything to do it - can't change VG is any manner. I can also select the stair itself as in any other view, but the treads/risers of the run are not visible in either pre-selection or selection.

Plan region should be setup like this:

Primary range:

- Top: at bottom of stairs

- Cut plane: below stairs

- Bottom: same as Cut plane

View Depth: above top of stair

@ToanDN - Thanks for the reply. I did not have the Top set correctly. Changing it to the bottom of stairs, instead of above the top of the stairs, makes the stair visible. Thank you!!!

I tried to set up the plan region view range the way you said but the stairs still don't show.

If I make the cut plane any lower everything turns black.

Ensure the offsets from the lower floor are at the same height that the stair starts from the level. In my projects, I have finished floors that are anywhere from 0.5" to 2.25" above the level, and that's the height that I start the stairs. 

I've given up on this method, even though ToanDN's suggestion works. There are still a couple of major drawbacks and PIA aspects to trying to achieve this. One being the stairs cannot be made transparent within the viewport (at least I can't make them transparent) and they hide any light place directly above. Without the viewport, lights above are visible. I now use detail lines to represent the stair treads.

@sahibZLTGS Check the stair type is a assembled stair and it has treads assigned to it, I proved several types and this is the only configuration where the View region works.

Yes, it would be good to have the option to switch off each of the visibility 'quirks' (such as this, and 'short walls') so we could start with a clean view of the model.
