Come on. It's time to just let us make tables from scratch in Revit. No more crazy Excel workarounds and no more hijacking a category I'm not going to use and hacking its schedule. I just want to be able to make a simple table straight in Revit.
Not a schedule or legend, a table. We should not have to go get DiRoots or another app to do this out of the box in Revit. How this has not been added in over the 2 decades of Revit development is beyond me.
Guess what? Not everyone wants to use a legend to build a table. For one there is no way to place them precisely. People also do not want to always use a schedule because formatting them for an on the fly table is ridiculous. All you need to do is work with an engineer that loves uncommon schedules and wants more control over that schedule and you will find that they are useless a large portion of the time.
Come on! It is such a simple tool, and it is so usefull! As is the enrichment of the text and schedule format tools, I mean, this Comment box has 100x more format tools than the Revit text format tools and I would argue they are way less necessary and/or used here. Autodesk just keeps fueling the people who still argue Revit is "ugly", and sometimes I just have to agree, it is so hard sometimes to make it look good graphic-wise. I agree with @pieter7 that it should be in the Annotation tab, just like in any text editor software.
Also about the cheating argument, just as @JasonKunkel said "if people are going to cheat, they are going to cheat", there are people out there making walls out of 3m high floors, and I do not believe it is my place to tell them to stop, nor it is Autodesk's place. Each person will use the tools they have as they see fit, if it is the "right way" or not is entierly their responsability. And of course there are many legitimate reasons to want to be able to make a simple table, but I don't think I should have to prove my morals to a software.
