Keynote Editor Within Project Envirionment

Keynote Editor Within Project Envirionment

I waste tremendous amounts of time trying to open the file, find the note you need to add, change or fix, when it seems to be so close to right at your fingertips when you go to select the keynote.  Please build in the ability to edit keynotes in the project envirionment.

I've recently started using pyRevit and it has a great keynote Manager tool and its free.

Autodesk adopt what the developers of pyRevit have done. it's that simple

Keynote Manager is a great 3rd party for this issue until Autodesk deals with it.

But I completely agree that Keynotes Need to be integrated into Revit fully, and editing them should be as easy as editing a regular schedule in Revit. (Because then we can edit these in Excel and then push them back into Revit.)

@Anonymous this is what we use currently as well.  Not bad.  Fussy with collaboration and multiple user situations for sure, but definitely better than manually editing in Notepad.

Revit needs to have a built-in Keynote Legend Manager/Editor where the keynote values and descriptions can be created/edited and managed from within Revit.

  • Heading, Sub-Headings/Values should also be visible in the Keynote Legend when placed onto sheets with the option of alignments (left, centre or right).
  • An option of ALL Keynotes relating to the project should be allowed to be visible in the Keynote Legend (whether tagged to an element/material or not).
  • The option of setting a font style for Headings and Sub-Headings to the Keynote Legend.
  • The option to Export the Keynote Legend to Excel or to a csv file.

Since BIM 360 has been unable to keep the keynote.txt file updated in our office across multiple users on collaborative projects we now use google sheets to collaboratively work on the keynotes in real time, place keynotes in the Revit file as we go (which stay blank in the legend until we update the .txt file) and then periodically update the .txt file by uploading into BIM 360 web interface. Nothing else seems to work for projects with multiple users.

Yes! Built-in keynoting needs to be a thing. Also needs to have multi-user support.

Strongly support this idea. We should not have to use third party software to achieve a basic documentation requirement.

Why has this not been fixed yet?

this has been an issue since forever.

I know this sounds negative and complainy BUT.... using text editor/excel outside of the Drawing Interface is something we did back in year 1999...when it was AutoCAD 14 or AutoCAD 2000. It is so antiquated. We are now in 2023! Revit has amazing features, so...let's make them upgrade the keynote capabilities. It's way overdue.

It amazes me that we still don't have integration at this point. I have been using the software commercially since 2007 and I have been frustrated ever since. There are free third-party softwares that try to manage it but they are limited by the current Revit architecture. We have even written an in-house program to assist in editing our keynote files, but we shouldn't have to do that for something that should be integrated into a BIM software. Come on Autodesk, you can do better!
