Highlight element selection in linked files

Highlight element selection in linked files

When programming in Revit, it is possible to select an element in a linked file, however, it isn't highlighted. It would be really handy to have this option, which makes it much easier to make tools that work with linked files.

Let say I am making a tool that does something with windows. It would be a huge help to show the user where in the building this certain window resides. When it is in the main model, you can select the element and highlight it, but not when the element is in a linked file.

Thanks everyone for the votes. I really hope autodesk will notice this idea someday and does something with it 🙂

Yes this really needs to be added to the API, the ability to interact with the Link Instances Elements will great enhance add-ins particularly for MEP engineers or really anyone who needs to query and display Linked elements into a selection set for the user.

Hello, Could you please tell me what is the status of the implementation of this idea?

Hi, @70dog ,

Unfortunately we can not answer "when" an Idea will be implemented in the software, only that the Idea has been accepted and that it is in development. Stay tuned!
