Filter by Detail Level

Filter by Detail Level

It would be nice to be able to use filter by detail level of different members in the same categories.  For example, on the framing plan, I like to use beam/headers as medium to show the actual width and then rafters, floor joist etc as a line which is in coarse level.  That's without having to change within the family to make the visibility setting work.  Doing it this way would be quicker and have better control.

I agree, being able to use a filter to set detail levels would be very helpful.  For example, in a remodel project I might have existing and new casework.  They are the same families, but I'd like the existing ones to show at a course detail level because they are for reference and the new ones to show at a medium detail level.

In the MEP world, it would be nice to show piping at Coarse detail for specific sizes, then show it as Fine/Medium detail at a larger size.

I'm sure there are a million other uses for this, it would be a nice addition!

For example: I would like to turn all Walls that meet a certain criteria to be COARSE.

So you are essentially asking for detail level to be a component based settings instead of a category or view based setting?? Does this mean when overriding graphics by element, you would like to be able to control detail level?

@Anonymous That's a good idea, too! It would be nice if any overrides could be done at the category, Filter, or element level.

It would also be good if Filters would allow you to adjust subcategory properties instead of just EVERYTHING. For example, if the Filter was only for Walls, then "Common Edges", "Hidden Lines", etc. would also show up in the Filters tab. If multiple categories were selected for the filter, then just the common subcategories would be available in the Filters tab.

Hi Autodesk,

It will be more helpful if the Filter Tab got a control over detail level.

One of my project, a particular service has to show in single line.

Which I was unable to achieve with Revit 2017.

Following image for reference.

add detail level in filters.

Great idea. I really hope this gets implemented. It's easy, and yet very powerful.

Seconding the post above - add a Detail Level column to the filters dialog.

Great idea.  Being able to do things like turn an existing wall to coarse detail would be amazing.  I am also lobbying to get a filter to override a halftone.  You can add halftone to a filter, but for phasing if you halftone existing, you cant undo that via filter such as a "reuse" custom parameter.  Please vote if you would find that helpful as well...  https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/filter-options-quot-remove-a-halftone

I really need this feature since i don't want to show multiple lines for thicknesses less than 2 cm in my walls. This would be a life saver if i could filter these elements and set their detail level to coarse. Please consider implementing this feature.

From a mechanical perspective, this feature would be nice to show smaller piping and ductwork as single-line with larger sizes remaining double-line. Having mall geometry shown double-line fuses the line work together making small piping appear as a thick black line when printing.

I would like to be able to use filters to adjust the Detail Level of individual elements in a view.  For example, I want all my pipes 4" diameter and less to be single line, and 5" and greater to be double line in plan views (and maybe 3d views as well). The current 'all or nothing' approach to adjusting detail level for elements based only on their category could be improved to be more flexible.

This would be perfect for Mech/Interiors. Just had a request for Interiors wanting to show some of the pipe as single line and other (important to their work) as double line. Work around used is the manual overlay of multiple views at different detail levels with filters hiding the other systems in said views.  Just like Arch/Interiors has to do with phased room elements sometimes. I would also like to put forward more interest in this function. Especially for pipework, as mentioned earlier.

It would be a big game changer.

It would be phenomenal to be able to control elements' detail level when using rule-based view filters.

Revit needs this feature! I would love another column in the filters dialog to change detail level.

It would be nice to be able to change the detail level (fine, coarse, etc.) with filters. This would allow us to filter ducts and show ducts smaller than a certain size as a single line.
