Element ID Number - highlight and copy

Element ID Number - highlight and copy

When Expanding a warning, it would be great if we can click to highlight and select the actual element ID #, so that we can search for it. Better yet, make the "show in the model" feature available!

What I have done is export the HTML from this dialogue and then parse the data in Excel. I made a list and used the Select Element by ID function. It's a small amount of work but it does work out.

First: The ONLY usecase for the IDs of Selection tool is to copy the numbers to the clipboard.

Second: With 99% likelyhood the ONLY usecase for the Select by ID tool is to make a selection based on the ElementIDs copied recently in step 1. I realise some might keep a log of a series of ElementIDs, but this will fall in the 1% category.

So, I suggest the tools are updated accordingly:

1: IDs of Selection tool does NOT open a dialog, it just plainly COPIES the ElementIDs from the current selection to the CLIPBOARD - thereby saving you a step.

2: Select by ID does NOT open a dialog, it just creates a selection RETRIEVED from the ElementIDs currently in the CLIPBOARD - thereby saving you a step.

These could optionally be new tools alongside the old ones as long as one can assign keyboard shortcuts to them.

This would save me from having to search the ribbon for the Select By ID command because i always forget where it is as i don't use it very often.

It's a bit of a faff to use IDs, i think this is a good idea.

When we are getting any error wile modelling then an error dialog box opens containing all the errors causing issue with those elements' IDs. my concern is that we are not able to copy those elements IDs from error dialog box. there should be a copy text option so we can copy/paste into select by Id element dialog box to select those elements and rectify. it would be very streamline.

Like in that idea by a similar sounding user? https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/element-id-number-highlight-and-copy/idi-p/6878359 from ages ago?

@MiWolff, I agree.  @kimberly_fuhrman-jones, could you please combine this with the idea that Michael points out above?  Thank you.
