Drafting Views as option for Linked View

Drafting Views as option for Linked View

It would be really great if drafting views from a linked model were available as options for the linked view. This way details and other 2D drawings could be available across shared models from one central project. Also a good option as a workaround for a legend that could be shared with different models and would update live when the link is reloaded

This should be basic functionality and something Autocad already does. Why doesn't Revit already do this?

Funny enough, bicycle manufacturers actually don’t include pedals with most bikes – not to take away from your point though, just a funny anecdote 😊

One more up-vote for something that may never come to pass 🙂 This would be a great way to manage file sizes.

Thumbs up to implementing this idea.

Also, perhaps a good idea for large projects where one consultant or stakeholder has more than one model. ie. typical details, typical notes could be linked from a company or division container file without having to bog down your main model with so much typical stuff that may not be editable anyways? Sometimes we split models along expansion joint lines or if there are many buildings in a project, keep them in separate models to keep file size down. Just another way to organize and keep things simple. Or complicated depending if you are glass half full or empty type person. 🙂

It's mad this is not a basic functionality. A workaround I use is a regular plan view in the base file, with all the model components turned off and only the annotation layers turned on. You can then use this as a drafting view and link it into another file/files. This will mean the linked views will all update when you update the annotations in the base file. I'm sure this is not perfect!

The ability to Revit link in Drafting views from one project to another could be beneficial. It allows us to maintain one main project for all details that is the "Master Detail" Project and will allow us to be able to update and reload whenever there are changes in the details. This way details do not have to be replaced on the sheets rather just updating in their respective locations in the projects.

Still looking for this to be implemented one day.
