Customize View Discipline Settings

Customize View Discipline Settings

I would like to have the ability to customize the View Discipline settings.  Alternatively, get rid of the baked-in discipline settings, and add those settings to Visibility/Graphics.

Example: I'd like to have views displayed as a combination of the Mechanical and Coordination view settings.

  • Non-MEP elements to appear halftone automatically as provided by the Mechanical discipline setting.
  • Pipe and Duct center lines to be visible as provided by the Mechanical discipline setting.
  • MEP elements to display hidden when behind or beneath structural elements (walls, floors, columns, etc.).  This can be partially achieved by using the Coordination discipline setting with "Show Hidden Lines" set to "All".  However, I don't want all hidden lines to be visible and still want the auto-half tone for non-MEP elements.

This is one of the most common complaints within our organization regarding the appearance of our deliverables.

We would like to show pipe center lines in Architectural or Coordination Discipline with Hidden Lines view, this can keep pipe interrupt style and also center lines as below image.

Specifically add a new discipline for Infrastructure elements. I work with bridges and all their elements are considered infrastructure yet there is no infrastructure discipline and the structures discipline doesn't show the hidden lines of infrastructure elements in their views.

Also the subduing of certain disciplines in views can be annoying so having greater customisation that doesn't involved manually changing each individual element would be useful.

Could´t it be a psoibility to add this to a tab called project settigs?

This is really need as well.
It could contain Project Filters, Procejt Disciplin settings ect.

Current core disciplines cannot be altered or added to, which leaves major trades like technology out in the cold. Please allow us to create our own core disciplines or keep on top of what is actually needed and add them.

I don't think it should be user customizable, but having additional choices based on industry standards would be good.  Technology would be a good one (Telecommunications).  What about one for each of the NCS disciplines, perhaps other than those I crossed out here?  The General would equate to the Coordination discipline we currently have.  Thoughts?

Do you mean the view Discipline parameter that has as options: Coordination, Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing?

Does any real user really uses them for print sheets? My old company did for MEP disciplines, but the graphics for the Architectural and Structural drawing was unreadable. And the problem is we could not override by revit link because that feature doesn't work.

So you may ask, why to I hate every other option besides Coordination?

First, you stop to be able to select some categories (I cannot tell you how many times a user got crazy because he could not select and equipment that turned out to be in the generic model category (because, right...)...

Second, as I told you both architectural and structural elements get overlay, so you stop understanding what is a wall what is a floor, furniture or struture. It's all a bunch of confusing lines. Also, when linking by view to get the 2D information from the architectural model we lose hatches everywhere that could be fundamental to hide parts of the model, or that have critical information.

Third, when the view range is more than one floor we end up seing the toilets of the lower floors if we are not very, very, careful. It's a pain to catch those when a building has complex levels.

So bottom line, NEVER use any other discipline besides Coordination. PERIOD.

So why would you like to create more, exactly? For Project Browser organization? Use a custom parameter (or more), it's better...

What you should be asking is for a way to setup this visualization presets I talked about before and personalize them, so I would not have underlay on when I do not want to. Maybe in that case it could make sense to have one version with it on, like originaly, and a veriant with that off.

If I didn't understand what you mean by Discipline, please correct me @jdschmidtT685Q .

Meanwhile, Autodesk take notice to my off topic observations. Thank you!
