Copy/Monitor API

Copy/Monitor API

I would like Copy/Monitor and Coordination Review to be better exposed to the API.  Currently if a wall/floor/grid is Copy/Monitored from a linked file to a host file, the API will only reveal the Element ID of the Linked Model using "GetMonitoredElementIds".  That is not really helpful.  We need to know both the ID of the linked file which contains the monitored element and the id (or better yet GUID) of the actual element which is being monitored.  With this, we could then start some interesting view controls to have Revit automatically run a coordination review (via the API), look and see which elements may have had changes to their monitored elements, then isolate only those particular elements in a view (or color them red, etc....) this would make for a much more productive Copy/Monitor Coordination Review process.

I agree! There is not enough information in the Coordination Review tool. You should be able to see so much more, such as a list of links that have elements monitoring TO them, for example, and any warnings associated to them. I would also love to be able to spit out a schedule through Dynamo via the API to do a QA/QC check on what is monitoring what from each link. This should be pretty standard for interest by any BIM Manager, I would think!

Let's start from Copy-Monitor method the same as in the UI.

I was surprised to find out that this functionality is not exposed in the API. It is a necessary part of setting up linked models for any consultant and lends itself great for automation.

This should include nested elements within a family.   Many times architects are placing equipment assemblies which are a combination of multiple families...  Isolating basic parameters (x,y,z, in relationship to a given level).    Or improve the copy/monitor capabilities.

Expanding the list of items that we can copy monitor and exposing them in API will help automate models to enrich data for higher LOD.  In an ideal workflow, architects and designers would model a lean design intent model. General Contractors or trade partners would then build their own model copy monitoring the information and adding more information to enrich the model quality. This would perhaps help gain more confidence in keeping up with information that gets updated on a weekly basis by the design intent model providers. I would like to see a workflow around this concept for sure.

Any updates on this idea so far?

2020 and nothing has been done for this. We're trying to automate model setups and this not being available in the API throws a big wrench in the process.

I can't agree with @jonathanroy8676 any more!  Automating MEP model setup relies heavily on this!

I agree with @jonathanroy8676 and @JustinStirling26  if exposed or given the ability to C/M at least grids and levels it would be game changing. I could have the copy monitor task done for all models for users who always forget to copy/monitor Shared Levels and Grids. This API limit adds 30 min - hours on projects when users do it (do it wrong, or don't bother and have no control over the grid extents in their views). Please its almost 2021 I want to use forge and other tools to save time on project setup.

Any news on this? Customers keep asking why we don‘t offer C&M automation and all we can tell is that we‘d love to but cannot.

Any news regarding this topic?

It's 2022 now 🙂

Hi everyone waiting for an update on this topic.

I think this idea has come to reality, In Revit 2022 they've included several new Postable commands and Copy Monitor/Select Link is one of them!

@465565873sthanks, but no thanks. This is next to nothing. I'm sorry to say this but it's still useless,.

Any updates in this feature ? Adding postable command and call it a day doesn't reall help anyone....

Do it finally!

Id like to see this implemented before I retire please.....

@Stephen.J.Germano That last post made me laugh a bit louder and a bit harder than what would fall under professional office etiquette. I applaud you, sir. 😂

In all honesty, I just want to visualize the C/M'd content. Let me define a color similar to the "Worksharing Display" tool as shown below. This would be so helpful for designers!

Is it still unresolved?

I can't believe this is not part of the API - I'm actually repressing this very thought
