Clearance Family Category and Features

Clearance Family Category and Features

Please provide a built-in clearance family category. Please provide features for this category such that Revit knows how to treat clearance when running interference checks. Allow this family category to be nested within other family types and it still be seen by Revit as Clearance. When running interference checks, Revit should have the option to ignore clearances clashing with clearances. The clearance category should be able to have subcategories, just like any other family, so we can define working clearance, dedicated space, installation clearance, etc.

Also provide a new material type for clearances. Especially one that will still be transparent in Plan/RCP or Elevations, and one which will be transparent when cut. (In fact, all transparent materials should be transparent in this manner.)

While modeling and coordination with respect to MEPFP services, users need to check the clearances of the elements referring to relevant codes. Different codes are having variable values of the clearances to be followed.

If Revit can have an inbuilt parameter for the clearances, it would be better for the users to put the desired values.

Pretty much every Architect I work with has added clearance indications to their door families.  But, because there is no default sub category for this, there are a LOT of variations in how they are named.  Worse - as any given project adds doors, sometimes coming from different sources, the models end up with 2, 3, or more subcategories for doors showing essentially the same thing.

Similar things happen with anything that has clearances indicated, so lots of MEP families, but doors are a really good example

As a sub consultant, it's one more thing to address every time we set up a new project.  And, because of that thing where new subcategories get added as families from different sources get added to the project, it becomes a model/view template maintenance issue.

Just having a common subcategory for clearances will help - getting everyone to move their existing clearance indications to that subcategory is also needed,  But that's a separate wish.

I was going to post a Subcategory Merge idea as well, but it already exists -

If you like this idea, consider giving that one a vote as well

We have nice list in Group parameter under drop-down, but i think it would be nice to have "Clearance Zone" group in revit family editor, because there are various types of parameters needed to be predefined such as dimensions, yes/no.
