Categorize Tabbed Views

Categorize Tabbed Views

The new tabbed views feature in Revit 2019 is great! Thank you for it.

It is a bit confusing when you have multiple project files open. You might have views in different projects that are the same name. It would be great if you can categorize the tabs per project by using color coding for example.

Thanks MP_WAG,

I had been thinking of this one for a while now, and just came upon the thread to post here. .  I voted for the other options and hope ADSK will HERE US.  Seems like I am not the only one who has had multiple projects with similar named views open at the same time, needing to work in them simultaneously. Two instances is not the answer. Color Coding makes a visual differentiation between projects and is easy to recognize and organize.

I agree. When having two separate projects open there can be a tab color set "by project".

Apparently you can't delete your own comment when you realize you're wrong. So, I'll just change my comment to say:

Me too! 😄

We need this!!! So confusing to work with multiple files..

It would be nice if a color could be assigned to a project so that all its sheet/view tabs would have the same color.

That way all Project A's tabs are blue, Project B's tabs are red, etc.

It would help when the tabs are all mixed together.

If you voted for this idea, there's a good chance you might also like this one: bring back the CTRL+TAB behavior from 2019 to go to the previous view.

Not sure I want the extra admin of doing this myself, but auto-grouping of project tabs and auto assigning a different colour to each would be great.

I was about to make the same suggestion.

Since the Views Tabs where introduced in Revit 2019, the sorting of Views became a mess very quickly. Especially with editing families using different view tiles or having multiple project files open. It would improve everyone's working speed a lot if we can sort them automatically and if you could see which view belongs to which file automatically.

View Tab Sorting

Left how its sorted now after switching from WT to TW. Right my request to automatically sort them based on file and view type with coloring to distinguishes them. Preferred with a 'Sort By' button in the top right. Red is the Project file, Yellow is Family 2 and the not colored is Family 1 (bath tub) in this example.

View Tile Sorting

When clicking WT the tiles will spread all over the place. It would be nice by auto group them based on view type or other settings. Next to each View Tab a button (blue marking) to switch all tiles to selected project. This way you can quickly jump from family to family and project w/o the need to search the related view every move.

Tab selection improvement

Selecting and drag-drop the tabs now takes 2 clicks and a second loading in between. it would be nice if selecting and drag-drop would be in one click. The same with switching view tile > selecting object. And drag-drop multiple tabs simultaneously. Small changes with major working speed improvements and less frustrations.

This would be a great addition to help in switching between multiple open projects.

It's a gold idea. I use these functions a lot in Revit 2017/2018, but in 2019 version it's just messy...

I Googled this idea and came to this page. First I got so happy because of B-Fetzer images and thought oh there is already a solution. Anyway I also voted. As an architect who opens tons of tabs I have hard time to find the tabs I want to. Please add this feature in Revit.

Hi!

It would be great if different projects could be highlighted by different colors in Revit 2019 tab bar. Usually I work in the same time in two or three projects, but because mostly our sheets are named in the same way I get confused quite often to wrong project.

I attached image of my tab bar right now (highlighted windows are from different projects).

Best regards,

Margarita

It exists...but it is an add-in.

Okei, thank you! I didn't know about this add-in before... It seems to work nice, but however, it could be easier if this option could be included straight in later versions of Revit.

Best regards,

Margarita

Very cool,  I do not know if the add-in is available right now.

The folks at Parallax create add-ins that are totally off of Autodesk's radar.  They will be setup at Autodesk University if you get to go.

Hi DCPrater,

here the same Idea.

It's a must have in Revit!

Please wote this too.

Kind regards, Bernhard

I would like different colors for Sheet tabs (Color A) and Views tabs (Color B). Better yet, just allow users to create heir own color schemes to color tabs. Like in MS Office.
