When creating pipes there are pipe materials that should be used to create each system i.e. cold water, hot water, tempered hot water etc. Types such as PP-R, PP-RCT, PVC, uPVC, Copper, HDPE, PEX-A and others can be used within a single project. When creating pipes having to select the material type before drawing pipe runs is a step that I consider could be automated. The pipe material to be used is generally determined before Revit input is required. It would be very useful if pipe material for each pipe system type could be defined in a template or as part of project setup. That would prevent incorrect materials being applied to pipes. All the Revit operator would then need to do is select which system type and pipe size they are about to create, and the material to be used could be applied automatically, as defined by the template or project. When under time constraints it is not uncommon for the Revit operator to forget to change the material type when they start drawing the next type of run. Automating material selection will result in time saved, fewer issues with connecting incompatible material types, fewer mistakes in scheduling, and less stress on operators.
