Assemblies

Assemblies

Idea: Allow for Revit assemblies:

1) Nest assemblies within assemblies (top-assembly/subassembly scenario);

2) Change assemblies without creating a new type (behave like groups);

3) Discrete metadata assignment per assembly category (wall, floor, structural framing etc) not all assembly categories;

4) Coordinate with Assemble Systems Product to allow Revit Assembly quantification (today it counts parts);

5) Allow structured BOM with parent-child relationship (top-assembly, subassembly, parts)

Good idea! This would be great for making shop drawings for steel elements for example.

Setup could then be the following:

Level 1 - Main model, plans, sections, 3D view of the whole structure etc.

Level 2 - Assemblies with drawings of, for instance a column with top and bottom plates.

Level 3 - Sub assembly drawings with each individual part,  e.g. column, top plate and bottom plate.

Many steel-building contractors request this level of detail and thats one main reason why Tekla is so popular

for just this purpose.

If Revit could do the same it would be awesome and we could use it as a good alternative to Tekla.

I'd like to vote for point number 2, change assemblies without creating new types, about a thousand times.

It is intensely frustrating the lengths I have to go to and the time I have to waste when I want to edit an assembly that is used in multiple places.

I use complex assemblies for MEP hangers and it is such a pain in the butt.

Assembles are currently configured to be unique, while this may be accurate for building spaceships it is neither use nor ornament for Construction.

Mass offsite manufacture brings great benefits to the construction process and assemblies should support that workflow without making me feel like I am smacking my head into a brick wall every time I use them.

They should also allow themselves to be moved up and down without having to make new type, adding workplanes like you can with groups would facilitate that but it isn't currently possible to add workplanes to Assemblies.
