AI-Generated Cartoon Set / Project Setup Idea
Allow the Revit MCP to create an initial architectural drawing set—or “cartoon set”—for a project based on an office template, project type, scope, and user instructions.
A large amount of effort at the beginning of every Revit project is spent performing predictable setup work rather than design. An AI agent should be able to take an existing company Revit template and create the initial structure of the project.
For example, the architect could provide:
Project name, address, client and project number
Project type and scope
Existing vs. new construction
Project phases
Jurisdiction
Anticipated drawing milestones
Required disciplines
Office naming and sheet-numbering conventions
The MCP agent could then create and populate:
Project Information parameters
Sheet list and sheet numbers
Title blocks
Floor plans
Reflected ceiling plans
Enlarged plans
Elevations
Building sections
Wall sections
Finish plans
Life-safety plans
Code sheets
Schedules
Legends
Cover sheet
General notes sheets
Placeholder detail sheets
Appropriate view templates
Browser organization
Scope boxes and dependent views where appropriate
The result would not need to contain finished drawings. The goal is to produce a well-organized cartoon set ready for the architect to begin working in.
Example prompt:
“Create a 50% CD cartoon set for a 3,000 SF medical tenant improvement using our office template. Populate the project information, create the anticipated sheet list and views, apply our standard view templates, create room and door schedules, and identify anything you need me to resolve.”
Important workflow
Before creating anything, the agent should present a proposed sheet/view structure for approval.
After approval, Revit MCP could perform the batch creation through Trusted-Write and provide a summary of everything created or modified.
This could eliminate hours of repetitive project setup while still keeping the architect completely in control of the resulting document set.
