Lets assume (Only an assumption) someone jumps into this discussion and tells you yes it will affect file size!!!! what will happen then? will you stop setting links as Attachments and link everything into the main model directly as overlays?? If that is what you have in mind, you should note that you will be ending up with the same results either ways (attachment or overlay)!!!
The question you need to ask is "Do I need to Load/See that nested Link in the Host model??"
If it is a nested link which needs to show in the model then it needs to be set an attachment...Moreover, it is the performance and clarity of the model what you should worry about not the file size. Therefore,
- revisit the nested links,
- check their type (CAD vs Revit/IFC)
- and reconsider what needs to load and be visible in the main model and what doesn't
- What needs to show, set as an Attachment, that is perfectly OK...
