Will setting link attchement setting affect the file size ??

Will setting link to attachment (instead of setting overlay) affect the file size ??

Lets assume (Only an assumption) someone jumps into this discussion and tells you yes it will affect file size!!!! what will happen then? will you stop setting links as Attachments and link everything into the main model directly as overlays?? If that is what you have in mind, you should note that you will be ending up with the same results either ways (attachment or overlay)!!!

The question you need to ask is "Do I need to Load/See that nested Link in the Host model??"

If it is a nested link which needs to show in the model then it needs to be set an attachment...Moreover, it is the performance and clarity of the model what you should worry about not the file size. Therefore,

1. revisit the nested links,
2. check their type (CAD vs Revit/IFC)
3. and reconsider what needs to load and be visible in the main model and what doesn't 
4. What needs to show, set as an Attachment, that is perfectly OK...

Quick Answer is no. Attachment/overlay base on how you want the link to appear after it is link to another file. If you remember AutoCAD days attachment will make the file appear if you link into new project file. Overlay basically link once and won't appear after you link the file into new project file.

What you have to becareful with is AutoCAD link into Revit. That will increase your filesize.

Attachment or Overlay only affects nested links in multi-level linking and circular linking.  It has nothing to do with neither model file size nor performance.

I am not the only one who believes Linked models (both attached or overlay) contribute to the model performance. Autodesk does too!!!

The comparison is between Overlay nd Attachment, not between with links and without links.

Between Attached and Overlay as well...loading unnecessary links which are not required does affect the model performance similar to any unnecessary element or component you load in...You probably need to research more on the topic.

That was covered in my response but you only read what you want to see.

It was an reiteration + 1 statement what you made Toan, There is nothing to miss in that and in my reply I used a Knowledge Network article  to address that statement  from Autodesk's point of view not just mine. 

Anyhow, besides the Autodesk Knowledge Network articles there are many reputable Revit bloggers and AU classes that cover the topic as well. Sufficient to convince you that it is not what I see but what many see. But of coarse as an Autodesk expert you are also entitled for your own opinion on such subject matters  : o)
