Why is the render button grey and disabled?

Im pretty sure you have to be in a 3D view to render.  You want to render an elevation you can create another 3D view then right click on the box in the upper right corner and go to orient to view then elevation.

I am already on 3d view but render button still greyed out

try to delete your existing 3D view and create a new one, try to render and see if helps. thanks
