Why Doesn’t My Revit 2018 Material Browser Dialogue Box open?

Hello everyone,

Why doesn’t my Revit 2018.2 Material Browser Dialogue Box open?

It does opens in the 2017.2 version.

Already tried anything listed online and even installed the Windows 10 OS again. didn't help either 😞 After installing Revit on a clean OS and still having the same problem, i’m starting to believe that the problem is not only in my Revit.

Anyone with a Soulution?

Thanks in advance!

PS

Already tried following links and some more:

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for alerting me to this thread.

I'm sorry to hear that you are still facing issues.

1.Can you confirm if you have the latest updates for your Revit version?

2. Is Revit the only application running when this issue occurs?

Please send us your journal file to investigate further.

Regards,

I have a Revit 2018.2 install that won't open the Materials dialog box. I already uninstalled, did a pretty good cleanup, fresh install and the issue remains.

Answering your questions Viveka

1. The computer is on:

18.2.0.51
20170927_1515(x64)
2018.2

2. And Revit is the only application running

Let us know if you have any suggestions please.

Install the nVidia GeForce driver version 353.62.  Do not install any other version.

Thank you for the suggestion ToanDN!

I did see that solution. The problem is the card is AMD Radeon HD 8790M and Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600, not nVidia.

The other solution I came across was to wipe out the whole station.

I hope there is a better alternative

Find a AMD driver circa late 2015 and see if it works.  If it does then you can try newer versions until it breaks.  If it doesn't then I have no idea.

I have a weird theory but since you reinstalled the whole thing I am not so sure anymore...

Could it be you had previously plugged two monitors while working on Revit and your material browser is "lost" on the second monitor?

That's my best shot.

Hi @plamen.hristov

I just wanted to follow up here, any progress on this issue?

Were you able to resolve the issue? if there is something that worked for you please share it with the community.

If this issue still persists, then let me know the following:

  • Does this issue occur with a particular model?
  • The development team would still need a journal and your Revit file to test and compare results once we reproduce this issue.
  • We would be able to diagnose system information as well as Graphics related data to RAM utilization etc.

We are seeing a few patterns with Revit 2018.2, graphics cards and Windows10 updates.

If you have any concerns or questions at that point I am happy to find some more information for you.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi @plamen.hristov and @Greg_in_VA

Please let us know if you've checked your driver.

Windows makes some automatic changes even after turning off your PC, so please check this link on How to Disable Automatic Driver Downloads on Windows 10

Let us know if this helps resolve your issue. I look forward to your reply update.

In my case we determined that was caused by uninstalling the Materials libraries.

Looks like I need to replace my graphics card. Discovered the AMD FirePro V4900 isn't  recommended. Thanks for your support!
