Revit 2018 No material browser

Anonymous
Not applicable

I just startet using Revit 2018, student version. Have not tried revit before.

I found out that the material browser does not work. I cannot open the browser at all (Manage/Materials) or change any materials by using "Edit type"

Tried to repair and uninstall the Material Library but that did not work. Then I tried to reinstall the entire software. That did not help either.

I have looked at the File/options/File location, and it is the right path.

(As I know very little of software, I do not know if this information will help. But when I look at my computers local disk (c:)/Program data/autodesk/rvt 2018/librarys/Denmark and chose any of the folders there is a lot of rfa files. If I go throug revit/options/File location and choose the path, there are no files in the Denmark subfolders)

Hope someone can help me.

Hi,

thanks for answering so fast.

I have tried that without any luck.

The libraries are there. I have repaired them, with no luck. Uninstalled and reinstalled with no luck.

It just seems like the software cannot "connect" to the library folder.

I tried once again to uninstall and reinstall the library files. Did not work. Tried to repair, as written in the article, that didnot work either...

The other article I find hard to understand.  Where do I find the files to add to the Additional Render Appearance Paths dialogue box. I know where to find the render ... dialogue box, but not where to find the file on my computer.

Neither do I understand where I can find the unused materials and how to purge them.

I am sorry I am taking up so much of your time:-(

To make you feel a little better (or worse), I have had the same problem for months and I am no novice come to fix things like this. In all previous versions, but not 2018. The only thing I have not done is wipe clean my computer because 2018 is not my daily driver.

@Anonymoushello, it that case we try to do a clean uninstall of your revit program using autodesk uninstall tool. switch off all your anti virus program and firewall. if you have a mcafee anti virus uninstall first and install later. download the revit 2018 from Autodesk Virtual Agent and install. thanks

Hi all

As you know I installed revit 2018 student version. I never got the material browser to work. I tried all the things mentioned and suggested from others, but without any luck.

Yesterday I gave up.

Then this morning I tried to install the 2017 version. I made a clean uninstall (2018 version), used the virtual agent to download the 2017 version, turned off my antivirusprogram and so on. The materialbrowser worksSmiley Wink I am so happy. (But there is no templates??? Well I think I know how to solve that, so I will just keep smiling and be happy:-) )

Anyone knows why I was told, that I have to renew my lincense in 30 days? It is not a trial version.

Have a nice day

Materials work for 2017, or 2018, or both?

@ToanDN It works on 2017 student version. I uninstalled the 2018 version. I know it did not solve the problems with the 2018 version, but right now I can accept that as the 2017 version is fine for me. 🙂

What is your Windows version? I am trying finding a pattern where this happens.

I use Windows 10 pro. Is that the "right" answer? Or is something else you need to know?

Hi @Anonymous

Sorry to hear that you are still facing issues Smiley Sad

Locate your Autodesk Material Library  \Content\ADSKMaterials or look in the control panel to check and see if they are installed.

You may be missing files during the download process.

 Try the following steps:

  1. Conduct a Clean Uninstall of the program use MSfixitTool to complete the uninstall
  2. Temporarily disable UAC:  Windows 10
  3. Temporarily disable your Antivirus software & Firewall
  4. Empty your TEMP folder. To open the TEMP folder, type %TEMP% in the address bar of Windows Start Menu and hit Enter
  5. Log in as an Administrator
  6. Use "Browser Download" Method from Autodesk Account or via the Autodesk Virtual Agent (download all the parts)

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question. Kudos welcome!

Regards,

That is all I need to know.  I have the same problem with Windows 10 Home Premium so it does not relate to the flavors of Windows OS.  My work computer running Windows 10 Pro does not have this problem.

@Viveka_CD

Is there any difference between logging in as an Administrator and logging in as an user with all the Administrator rights?

@ToanDN not a big difference as far as I've seen, however sometimes a user logging in with administrator rights may not have all the privileges, again this depends on how the setup is done with the IT department of the company

I've seen prompts appears when logging in as an admin, and these are security related - like firewall etc and it asks the user for encrypted passwords.
