Double click on the tag to get into edit mode (or right click on it in the project browser and select 'edit').

Select the text (known as a 'Label') and click edit Type - then click off 'Show Border'.

Click OK and then click 'Load into Project' (modify or Create ribbons on the right hand side).

that should be you.

To add to @Keith_Wilkinson's comment...

Select the tag in the project, click Edit Family in the Ribbon.  Once in the family type VG, go to the Annotations Categories Tab and click the box "Show annotation categories in this view"  You will be able to select the box outline and delete it. Save and reload back into the project.

Thank you for that.  I just ran into the same problem.  Seems silly to me that you have to do this but hey, its Revit.  Everything has its pros and cons.

Being able to control the graphic of something is cons? Come on...

@rdw  You will find in lots of families that certain categories are turned off.  This is so the icons are cleaner if a view is last saved vs a 3D view.

When you start building your own families and use a library system like Family Browser you will totally understand.

I defiantly did not say that having the ability to control the graphics of SOMETHING is a Con.....Come on.  What i did say though, is in this situation it seemed silly that there is an option to toggle the box around the number built in and the phantom box around the text inside the family. I dont understand why the default room tag would be have that built-in, maybe it is necessary but maybe its not.

So, what is "that"?  The option to toggle the box around the number in the family, or the box itself?

Did you open the family, type in VG, open Annotations tab, and check the Generic Annotations box?

Yes, i did everything you told to do,but there is no box with name "outline" in revit 2020. I unchecked all other boxes, but the square did not dissapear .

You have to delete the box outline in the family for it to go away.  In the family it is turned off, turn it on and close vg. Delete the lines and reload back into the project.  Still works the same for 2020.  It was never named "outline", I was just calling the box linework an outline.

There is only one box, just delete it.

You boxes are the border of the labels. Edit the label type and uncheck Show Border.

You have all your annotation turned off - in the visibility graphics settings that @ToanDN mentioned earlier tick the box that says 'Show annotation categories in this view' at the top left and your box will appear - then you can delete it.
