Wall hosted profile

Good morning.

I created a family for a wainscot using a profile and I need it to be hosted by default to a wall

any suggestions please?

No, the profile cannot be hosted, but the geometry you are creating from it can be. 

So, how are you creating the wainscot geometry? Sweep?

Create the profile and assign it to a Wall Sweep type.

Another technique often used to do wainscoting, is through a Stack Wall.  If it's an Exterior Wall, you may want to do it that way instead of as a Sweep.  Check out Revit's stock Stacked Wall to see what I mean.

What you are saying makes sense to me. However, the reason I found this thread is because I wish to know what the family template file, "Profile-Hosted," is about and how to use it.

I have no idea what you are trying to express to me. That link is about Revit fundamentals -- how to create a profile family. I have over 15k hours of Revit time so I kind of know how to do that. The link doesn't make any reference to a hosted profile. Check the attachment to my posting.

Your question was: "what the family template file, 'Profile-Hosted" , is about and how to use it" .  That link I posted answers this question in depth. Read it and its hyperlinks.

A couple of hours after my reply, I did just that--I opened the template.

Then I was able to see how it is used. I think Autodesk words it in such a way as to imply that the profile itself is responsible for the hosting/attachment which is not the case. As you stated and as I see now, that it is a template that is typically used with hosted families but the hosting comes from the characteristics of the family and not the profile. In other words, I could create a sweep in a generic model using a profile created in that template but it still would not behave like a hosted element because the basic generic model family is not a hosted family.
