Wall framing layout

So at the beginning of my career the rule was floor plans to have studs only (with light weight cladding and internal walls - don't show these) as you are drawings for the carpenters to set out. Pen work and 2D CAD days. Brick you added the cavity and brick but they could work with that. Now we all have endless cladding materials all with different thickness and obviously using multiple materials and different sized studs etc.

All in all it means now with Revit I am adding the wall claddings, material notes and internal plasterboard etc. which is great for most of the detailing

But I want to create a framing only plan - so in plan view can I drop off the cladding in visibility and pick up the component that I want left (stud) and therefore dimension that off.

at present I am starting to pick off the stud with 'tab' command which is taking a bit of time

I have looked through VG but cant see that option

Hi,

You can change your wall type and move the finish materials outside the core and then use the VG settings (see printscreen). Another way is to model each wall separately and use filters, for example.

For the actual frame elements make them something like structural framing or Generic models... (whatever works for you and then hide the walls so only framing is visible.

Turn off non-core layers, or create parts from walls and turn off parts based on materials.
