Voids not moving with family when placed in project

Hi

Using Revit LT 2018.

I have built a classical column (that I need for a project) as a family. It is a combination of extrusions, blends and sweeps all of which are fine.

To form the fluting on the column shaft I have used void extrusions.

These also seem fine until I place them in a project and change the level of the column.

The column will move to the level as expected but the fluting (the voids cutting into the shaft) seem to stay at a default level (see attached screen grab).

I've tried playing around with the family but with no luck.

Any suggestions....?

Thanks

Hi

( work in Front Elevation of the family )

Create a Reference Line / plane at the top of the void ( flutes )

now lock the extrusion to that reference lines..

you may need to establish the distance between Levels - Reference line (for void ) - Level above..

dimension between level-ref line-level above and give parameters..

hope that helps..

Hello @Anonymous,

I have to create several Reference Line to locked the Sweeps and extrusions. (shown in left elevation)

I also altered the Blend you've created and make it as Swept Blend and add an additional Parameters so you will be able to adjust height in the project.

I also create the void as Sweep so I can easily locked the path according to swept blend. (as shown in left elevation on how this being done)

I also create the top capital as Model Group (reference line and dimension included in a group) (as shown in the left elevation) and locked the group based on the top of Swept Blend so it will be able to adapt the height everytime there's a changes.

Please see attached family below.

Cheers,

Many thanks for that - really helpful.

I could not get parametrics, reference planes etc to work when I tried. I had settled on using the top plane of the objects the I was cutting as the refernce for the voids which stopped them moving about when I changed level within a project.

Hello,  I am a beginner and I cant seem to move the whole geometry. The void that I created stays behind. How do I solve this?
