visibility settings in Legends

I've created a door family that has divided lights that have instance visibility parameters attached to them. I'm obviously able to turn off vertical or horizontal muntins in the model, but when I place the door family into a Legend, I can't turn on/off the visibilyt of the muntins. Is there a way to do this?

Thanks,

Logan

Unfortunately you cannot control the Visibility parameters through the legend component, but there are a couple of options you could try.

You could use Subcategories instead to control the visibility of your muntins, since you can turn them off in Visibility/Graphics is a legend view. For more information, you can check out the following thread : Legend Component - Sub Categories

Another option, if the Visibility parameter is an Instance parameter, is to modify the default setting of that parameter in the family type. If you edit the family, go to the Family Types dialog, and set the display of the muntins to be off using that parameter, it should update the Legend Component when you reload it into the project. You can still turn on and off individual instances within the project, but they should stay off in the Legend.

I hope this helps!

Hi Katie,

Thank you. Both ideas work perfectly. I probably should just stick with having the default view for the door NOT have the muntins because it's less common, but I think I like using the sub-category. It will allow more flexibility.

Thank you,

Logan

I have a keyplan that shows the entire site project with hatches for each partial sheet boundaries and numbers which I have done from LEGEND VIEW. I inserted the view to each sheets but my problem the parameter I created to turn on/off the FILLED REGION/HATCHES was not shown on the properties. I can only turn on/off the hatches from LEGEND VIEW.

How can I turn on/off the FILLED REGION/HATCHES on the keyplan exactly on what there is on the drawing sheet?

Please see the attachement below.

I am not certain whether or not you can control visibility parameters for a Legend.

For Key Plans, I use a Generic Annotation Family, nested into the title block family, driven by visibility parameters.  That way, it gets placed once and appears in the same place on all sheets (when visible).  The technique I use is described in detail in this blog article, if you are interested.

Hello @kathryn.langan ,

Just to confirm your second suggestion would work if the family is being loaded for the first time into a model but not if it just being overwritten, am I correct?
