Viewing parameters in a family

I suspect this has been asked and answered before. It seems so trivial, that it doesn't make it to the normal questions people ask.  However, I haven't the slightest clue (I'm still new, but learning relatively fast).  I am in the part of my learning Revit where I am trying to make a (window) family. Following a bit of advice I have seen online, I started with a simple window opening family.  One of the parameters is Width and another is Height.  The Height shows up clearly in one of the views, however, the Width parameter is nowhere to be seen.  The Width parameter is in the parameter list, but it is not showing up in any of the family views.  I would like it to.  What setting am I missing?

Here's what I have done, which is not much: I took a dimension of the opening width and tried to assign the existing parameter to it.  However, I received an error that my assigning the parameter Width to the width would over-constrain the problem.  So, this suggests to me that there may be a setting that I can toggle that will allow me to visually see it.

Thanks,

Micah

Open a plan view of the family to see the Width. If not, you can just place a dimension on a plan or front/back elevation view and associate it with teh Width parameter.

I would expect that to happen if you are trying to constrain something that is already constrained.  It's a common thing.  I do it myself. Dimensional constraints aren't always obvious.  Sometimes they are in another view, and sometimes they are hidden within sketch mode of an element.  Bottom  line: if you receive this error message, the constraint exists somewhere.  You just got to find it and remove it.

Your answer is accurate.  I did find the Width in another (Plan) view.  I was hoping to have that displayed in the view I am working on, because the Plan view doesn't have the perspective that is useful for my approach.  I have placed a dimension on the view I am working in, but it isn't labelled.  I guess I am just going to have be cognizant of it.

Thank you,

Micah
