View Filters for Shared Nested Families

Hello,
When setting up a view for shared nested families, I’ve noticed the following patterns. It seems to me that this behavior is not how it should work, but it’s possible I may have done something wrong.
Setup: A parent family, "Family1," of a category Mechanical Equipment, contains a shared nested family, "Family2," of the Pipe Accessories category. The goal is to hide only Family1 on the view.
- If I hide the Mechanical Equipment category in the view via V/G -> Model Categories, Family1 is hidden, and Family2 remains visible. This is the ideal behavior.
- If I try to achieve the same result using a View Filter (even without conditions), adding the Mechanical Equipment category to the filter and disabling its visibility causes both Family1 and Family2 to disappear (even though Family2 doesn’t belong to the filter category).
- In schedules, filtering works correctly and hides only Family1.
- It also seems to be a bug that if I first create and apply a filter, then add a condition in Family1 to match the filter, only Family1 disappears. However, after refreshing the view (e.g., by switching detail levels), both families disappear again.
- Interestingly, if instead of hiding the elements, I override their graphics, this can be made to work. For example, by first creating a filter for Family2 and then for Family1.
This issue has already been discussed in this thread: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-architecture-forum/hiding-a-family-without-hiding-a-nested-fami..., but the proposed solution doesn’t suit our needs. We need to hide the entire family from the view, not just its geometry.
