Using Legend detail components

If you have a ton of detail components in one legend view space, is there a way to pick and choose specific ones to show in different sheets (still pulling from the same legend view)?

I have a client looking for some sort of way to organize his vast amount of details in his drafting views in Revit, and also make it so he can change them universally through a project (changing one changes all of them).  He has attempted to use legends to do this, but after transferring several to individual legend views, he found that there is no way to sort legends into subfolders in his project browser like you can with views/schedules.

I was wondering if maybe he could create 2-3 big legend schedules of 50 different detail components, and then pick and choose different singular details to show on 30-40 sheets, all coming from the 2-3 large legend schedules.

Is this possible?

I can't understand why you use the LegendView for detail Item and how you can organized the title and rows and so many other things but do you mean something like this?

This is the direction I'd go in:
