Universally Turning off Annotations of Linked Revit Models

Hello, 

I would like to know if there is a quick method to universally/globally turning on and off the annotations of imported/linked revit models. Every time a new consultant jump on board, we link their model, line up our gridlines, and then we find ourselves with the task of going through every single view on every single sheet, or every single workset; attempting to turn off their gridlines/annotations from the linking.  Me and my team find this to be a complete waste of time and would like to know if we may have missed a simply button in the import setting we can simply toggle on and off.

Can you specify what types of annotations you're getting from the linked consultant models? 

For Grids specifically, if the consultant model is workshared you can use the Manage Worksets button under Manage Links (selectable when you've clicked a specific link). You can close the Shared Levels and Grid workset from there for that specific model. This can also hold true for other obtrusive worksets.

If the model is not workshared you could possibly use a filter via changing the Type Name of your model's Grid Type and doing a not-filter on Grids. You would have to propagate that filter to all of your views (Apply Template Properties, assuming you aren't already heavily invested into filters).

Have a quick chat with your consultants too how they are managing these stuffs. 

I would suggest create a filter and use it in your view template .

there's no global setting cause you can't control the workset / annotation etc in the 

revit files of consultants. you have to come up with your internal revit settings / view template

to tackle it.

Change Link Annotation Category from BY HOST VIEW to CUSTOM . Then you can use the right-click Hide in View BY CATEGORY method.  Pretty painless.

I tried using Dynamo for the same thing. Unfortunately those items are buried to far into the system. 

I always turn off grids, levels, matchline, reference planes, and scope boxes from linked models.

Even after setting up a view template that only changes those link settings, I still have to go into each view type and apply the template or put those settings into each of my view templates.

It would be nice if there was a "apply to all views/templates" button.

Or a dialog box when linking models that asks which annotations you want to see in your views.

Then automatically apply those link options to any view created in the project moving forward.

What you are asking cannot be done. Using view templates to control the graphics in your views will help with this.

Painless depends on how many links/templates you have.

The only annotation content that is visible by default when you link other models is Grids & Levels, nothing else. Unless you change visibility graphics to show other things.

To control Grids & Levels from others, I do it like this:

Rename your level type name to have a suffix with a hyphen, a space, and the initial of your discipline, such as "- A", assuming that you work at the architectural office. 

Do the same to rename your grid type name.

Then create a view filter, with this criteria: new filter > name: Grids & Levels from others > applies to: Grids & Level categories > with this rule: Type Name > does not end with >  "- A". 

Then apply that view filter to your views or view templates, turning off visibility in the filter's settings. Then no matter how many links you have in a view, all grids and levels from others will disappear, without you having to do anything with Visibility Graphics in links.

To do this i use the "APPLY" template method and you can do this quickly for all Views in one go;

Create a New View Template - Turn off Everting other than elements in the RVT Links

In this instance i am going to turn off all the Grids in the Link in all Views I set the View to Custom so i can turn off Annotation elements/categories

Expand all Folders > Click on the Top View in the Project Browser > Hold Down Shift > Click on the Bottom View (this selects all Views) > Right Click > Apply View Template > Select "Grids" View Template you create earlier 

All Grids in the Link in All Views are now hidden, and the good thing about this (APPLY) method it doesn't force (ASSIGN) a the View Template in the View (Check Properties Palette).
