Unable to unhide element (elements option is grayed out)

After clicking the light bolt button at the bottom of the screen, I'm unable to unhide this element "ramp" after right clicking on it.

"element"  is grayed out, why?  "by filter" is the only option available but there's no filter setup in the file.

So, if you need to see annotation type elements, you need to use By linked view. If you are referring to non-annotation objects, you are missing something.

In my world, the linked model is provided by others. That means, if I create a view and use By linked view, I would need to recreate that view every time I get an update.

You are right. I must have missed something (phase filter or some setting like that). And it makes sense generally to make it work on your side for the obvious reason of updates, as you pointed out.

I just found quicker solution like that. As i am in the hurry, i think i'll just leave it at that. But i completely agree with you Sir.

Im having this same problem and I cant for the life of me figure out why.

I have attached a part of my model with the room seperation lines hidden. When i select them and try to unhide them both the element and category options are greyed out. 

Any ideas why?

NOTE: This model has been stripped back to reduce the size. On the larger model (270MB) I find there a lot more elements which will not unhide. I notice on this version most things except the room sperators are ok.

Check your view template. The button is grayed out because the category is off in the template.

hi @RobDraw , I dont think it has to do with templates because in the full model.... i have the same issue even with no template assigned. See attached where i am trying to unhide a wall.

I have no worksets or filters enabled either.

I'm away from Revit but if I stated it like I did it was not just a guess. I looked at the model that you posted.

You said that you don't "think" it's the template. Did you ever look at it?

The second example i posted I specifically switched the view template off to illustrate that the it was happening independantly of the template. The first screengrab on my previous post shows that there is not view templare on this drawing and yet i still cant unhide the wall.

You didn't look at the room separation lines that were highlighted in your first example because they are indeed turned off in the view template. No thinking about it, it's a fact.

There is no 3D view in your model so the second example needs something to go by instead of a couple of images. Providing the a model would eliminate any guessing as there are many reasons why something may not show in a view and, until that is determined, the reason why you cannot unhide it cannot be determined.

The images in your second example do show that temporary view overrides are active. You may want to turn them off before proceeding.

In the model I uploaded you were indeed correct that the template was effecting it. I never disputed that. Although maybe i should have acknowledged it before expanding. I added the second example to show that it wasn't just the view template that was causing it.  

Having said all that, i think what youre saying about the temporary view overrides might have struck the nail on the head.

I am trying to unhide elements from the temporary hidden elements. 

That's possible right? Or can you only unhide "un-temporaryily" hidden elements.

I use temporary hide elements a lot and often make complex selections to filter what to hide/isolate. If something slips through the cracks on that first selection/isloate its not ideal that you have to unhide everything and laboriously redo the selection. I wonder why they dont include the temporary items in the unhide element category? 

If anyone out there has a workaround for that I would be grateful to hear it.

Temporary view properties is different from temporary hide elements/category. Your questions are all over the place.

@RobDraw Thats a strange comment. My questions are about hiding/isolating and therafter revealing elements. I just read through the thread and I dont see anything diverging from that.

You hijacked someone else's thread. Your first issue was solved but you insisted that wasn't the answer by using a different example. The second example is yet unsolved because it has more than on type of temporary view settings happening. Then you ask for a work around to the yet unsolved issue. That is why you are all over the place. You can't stay on an issue until it is resolved.

Ok thats your perspective. From my perspective....

I commented in a thread called "Re: Unable to unhide element (elements option is grayed out)" about EXACTLY that topic. Is that called hijacking? My issue, like the OP, was that i was unable to unhide items.

I uploaded a reduced size model to illustrate that. Your solution was about the template being the culprit however i knew that wasnt the issue I was having (because elements in the full model wouldnt unhide despite the view having no template). Nevertheless I thanked you for your reply and then tried to illustrate how your answer, whilst helpful,  didnt really resolve the issue for me .

You then pointed out the distinction between the view properties and hidden elements commands which made me realise that this was the cause of my problem. Thank god i asked that second off topic question right?

I then made the comment that it would be nice to be able to unhide individual elements that are temporarily hidden in the off chance someone reading this thread had a work around. This all feels king of on topic for a thread called "Re: Unable to unhide element (elements option is grayed out)" wouldnt you say?  

I'm not really sure know why you address people's questions which frustrate you tbh. 

Nevertheless you helped me solved my issue in your prickly churlish way and with any luck it may help another dope like me who encounters the same problem.

@Seychellian: The visibility of the room separation lines are controlled by the View Template. That is why the element and category options are greyed out.

@Seychellian: All 98 Room Separation Lines in the Project are VISIBLE in your 3D View. Obviously, since none are hidden in the View, there is no UNHIDE Element or Category Option.  

FWIW: there is also 7 Warnings associated with 13 of them.
