Unable to create legend

Hi,

We are working on a project  using an especific template from the office. While working on it, I've noticed I can't create any Legend for it. After we go on  View tabCreate panelLegends drop-down (Legend), nothing happens, no pop-up screen to create a new one, no window opening, nothing.

That's really strange considering other projects from another template works just fine, but this one especifically doesn't.

Any help?

Thanks!

Hi..

If the project is not too big and you can manage , then follow these steps..

1. Open a template or file which works, legend etc..

2. Link your " Revit file "

3. Bind the link..

4. Recreate all the sheets and views.. if you know how to use

transfer project standards, then it will save tons of work for you..

transfer project.JPG

and thats its..

Get rid of any files with bugs..its just waste of time to try and fix the currpted file or project.

Cheers !

Can I make it the other way around? Transfer Legends from a project that works and hope for the best?

@ToanDN I'd try.. The problem is we have lots of work based on this template, and I only saw this is not working in its final stages 😞 maybe could link file for something that works, but Idk if this solution would work well. Is there anyway I can load Legends files/families and other stuff?

@barthbradley and @Sahay_R hehehe sorry people, I couldn't give you the RVT or RTE for now. Maybe if I get to the office tomorrow and don't manage to get this solved, but for now I'm not allowed :((

No you can't make it the other way around because view type system families are not amongst those can be transferred.

I have a template from a public organization here with the same problem. I'll try to solve this with them, or at least try to have their permission to share the file. @Sahay_R and @barthbradley, I can bring the updates here in a few days. If I get their permission I share the files with you in order to comprehend the problem.

Hi,

Did anyone find a solution/workaround for the issue?

I've transfered project standards in a new project (as informed by @Corsten.Au) and was able to create new legends, but there's some issues since is a big project.

Hi, sorry for the late reply!

I was unable to to review this problem since the post has been created. I'll need to try again, but since I've moved from the office I was working, I have to simulate it with another template I have, which is from a public institution, that has the same problem. I'm looking forward for any discussion about that if you need help!

Same problem here aswell. I have tried transfering project standards and nothing at all. It's complicated for me to start on a new template because I am working on a project that is already detailed. And since its electrical, copying everything will make me lose informartion about panel tables and circuit connections.

Got one project today with that problem too, cleaned everything and saved an .rte so the expert can analyse here, 2021 version. Nothing on this topic could fix it. The solution was start one from the zero and copied everything i could, sad.

So i wast trying to upload so the topic finally get a file to be analysed, but im getting that error:
" Correct the highlighted errors and try again.

  • The attachment's problem.rte content type (application/octet-stream) does not match its file extension and has been removed."

I will reply anyway just to update that this can happen on revit 2021 and probably on 2022 as well. Im done with this software.

    Simply zip the RTE file and upload.

If the post office say they can't accept red envelopes then put your mail in a white envelope instead of giving up.

@eleude

If no Legend views exist in your template and/or project file, try and copy/paste a small legend view (with minimal elements in it) from a Default project.

  1. From a sheet view in a project file that has a Revit Legend view, select and CTRL-C to copy the legend instance;
  2. In the same Revit session, open your template and go to a sheet view and CTRL-V to paste the legend on the sheet;
  3. If the paste is successful, try and create an new Template view from the View menu.

This may happen when a Revit system family is corrupted or even deleted (by a dynamo script or other automation plugin/utility).

I know this works in Revit 2022.  Does it work in any older versions?

Hello @eleude  If the above suggestions do not work:  If you upgrade a saved copy of the model to Revit 2022, does the problem still occur?

In any case, Please log a support case and attach the model.

I can relate... This topic was created back in the 2017 version and still no solution from Autodesk.

Every year someone posts something regarding this bug and reminds me that we don't have clear solutions, let alone other major problems.

Would really appreciate if most of the solutions when using this software were not just mere workarounds.

To copy legends from one project to another - also try pyRevit, a free add in for Revit.
