Type selector shortcut

Hello!

I have a relatively simple question, which i just haven't been able to find the answer for so far.

My issue is that i am working with shortcuts a lot, especially doing detailing work, but i keep getting forced to use the mouse as shortcuts only takes me so far.

What i want to achieve is this: Shortcut for family -> Shortcut for "search bar"in type selector and then only use the mouse to actually place / move stuff.

An example:

Shortcut "DC" allows me select "Detail Components", but then i have to use the mouse to manually click and select which detail component i want before moving the mouse back again to actually place it.

Just having one key or a shortcut which activates the type selector, would allow me to select the detail component by keyboard and only use the mouse to place it.

I found some plugins which i *think* solves this - but is there really not a native solution?

Hi diojr1,

Unfortunaely there is no keyboard shortcut available to expand the Type Selector. I have been looking for a workaround to that as well, but could also only find this function through external addins.

Whilst not really what you are after, you can add the type selector to the ribbon. Right click on the type selector and select add to ribbon.
I have found this to be more comfortable to access as my properties is on another monitor. No native shortcuts I know of though.
Kiwi Codes has a family browser you may prefer.

Kind of bummed that such a shortcut does not exist. Should be pretty easy to implement - but thanks for the plugin idea! I'll definitely look into that.

I realize this is a very old thread, but a cheat for getting the shortcut for family type selector is to put it on the quick access toolbar, then make your shortcut using the ALT+# (if the type selector is 7th icon over in your QAT, your shortcut is ALT+7). To take this further, if you have a mouse with programmable buttons, you can program ALT+7 as a keystroke for one of the extra buttons on your mouse.
