Transparent glass in views

Hi fellas!

Does anyone know how I can make a glass material appear as transparant in my views?
It worked fine using "override in view" but that takes ages. I looked into filters but I couldn't find my way forward there.

Help is, as always, highly appreciated 🙂

Hi ToanDN! Yes they are, but not in elevations. Only if I override each elements graphics witch "surface transparency".

Yes that was what i thought. Opening cuts in doors and windows can be set to not see through on elevation views. Edit the families and set them to be transparent on elevations too.

How do I edit the families so that the glass is transparant in elevation views?

I found a way to get the curtain panels and doors transparent using a filter now (filter by type).
Works fine for the panels but not the doors (the door frame also gets transparent).

It is not the material. You need to edit the family, select the opening cut, and set it to be transparent on elevation/section. I don't have Revit on bed so you have to look around to find the settings but it should be there.

Filters will make the entire elements, not just glass, to become transparent, just as you said it.

Know that this approach only applies to when you've created the opening with "Opening Cut" and not with a void. It basically sets the subcategory Glass to be invisible, so it's not the same as (semi) transparant.

If you've used a Void to make the opening in the wall (in the window family) your only option is the set the glas subcategory to invisible as you cannot set other graphic overrides to subcategories.

I got it to work with curtain panels but it feels really weird that it turns into a struggle to get the glass panes in doors and other objects to work.
Should be a parameter in the material browser.

So theres no way having glass panes in doors and other families to appear, lets say 20% transparant? I don't want it completely see through (only if I really have to since there's no other way having proper glass).

How do you guys usually do? Our elevations looks alot better having transparant glasses compared to the solid ones.

A material's transparency is never shown in an elevation.

For curtain panels you can set this category to semi-transparent. Just know that when you place solid panels, instead of glazed, these will be semi-transparant as wel.

The same logic applies to doors and windows, you can set an override for the whole category, but not for the subcategories. An Idea to set overrides for subcategories has already been posted in the Ideas forum, so if you want you can vote for it.
