Tagging Custom Families in Revit

I'm curious to know if i am able to tag custom elements/blocks/families types in Revit. For example, if i create a family that is a box and then create different types of box families, am i able to populate which type are what and add it to a schedule to find the quantity. I'm trying to do the same things as tagging doors and windows, just with custom family types.

As far as scheduling custom families the answer is yes just not annotation families.  Just remember in order to schedule a parameter it needs to be a shared parameter not family. Project parameters can also be scheduled.  One thing to mention is that when you are creating shared parameter make sure if multiple users would be using those parameters to add to families/projects that you are all pointing to the same shared parameter file.  Revit assigned a unique ID to these parameters to even though they look the same if your parameter file is on your desktop and the other users creates the same parameter on their desktop it will not work correctly.

Thank you for your response. I am looking more into custom families and schedules. I would like to be able to place tags around my custom families  to populate information on the schedules. For example, with Doors, you have options in your Schedule properties like category, cost, count, height, etc. Can i make a specific schedule property for my custom built families?

Your question started with tagging then switched to scheduling but anyhow

1. scheduling parametric properties from families is possible yes as well as parameters from nested families in case you have put those into use. You do not always need shared parameters. DEPENDING on the family category you use, up to 95% of the parameters you need to schedule would already be defined as system parameters either in the family or once you load it into the project.
2. you use shared parameters as described above ONLY WHEN you want to schedule a property that doesn't exist. Then u add such parameters to your families and later add them in the project to the categories of those families. Just adding a share parameter in the family does really help you much if those shared parameters are not added to the same family category in the project.
3. NOTE: start by carefully selecting your family category and make use of the default system parameters first. Then add any new shared parameters when the need arise. Over using shared parameters will cause u hell lots of issues when used on the go with prior planning and consideration.

NOW back to your original question..TAGGING. If you want to tag elements in a family or tag certain parameters of those elements, it is doable when you use the proper tag for that family category and/or when you use the proper tag which has the right labels corresponding to the parameters in that family.

when you want to tag or schedule parameters from nested families, you will need to set those nested families as Shared (in that nested family's properties& category dialog).

Note: not all -annotation tags allow for labeling shares parameter. So you need to pick those carefully to suit your family's category

if i want the count of a nested family to be schedulled how can it be done 

For example i have a window type with 3 glass panels as a nested family while the same type with other instance has 2 galss panels only, The 3rd panel is switched on and off by an instance visibility parameter 

How can i schedule the glass panels number efficiently

You'd need an integer parameter in the family that knows how many glass panels there are. It could be linked to your instance parameter, so if the third panel is on, it reads 3, and if its off, it reads 2. Make sure its a shared parameter so schedules can pick it up.

I was going to say you could just make the glass panels shared families, so that your project still reads them as individual elements and can schedule them, but just making something invisible wouldn't work for that, as its still technically there, you just can't see it.
