No projection lines on round handrail on spiral staircase

I've drawn a spiral staircase with 2 different railings. On the outside a railing with slopen vertical balusters and a round handrail, in the inside a railing with only a handrail.

The problem is that this handrail isn't visible in elevations or 3D views in Hidden Lines. I can see the volume of the railing, but no projection lines. Since it's a round shape, combined with a round path for the "sweep", there are no hard edges.

In the shaded view you can see the handrail.

In floor plan the railing is completely visible.

So my question is: how can I get the silhouette from the andrail to show?

(I guess this question also applies to other rounded or organic shapes)

One solution could be to modify the profile of the top rail, as shown below. Add a couple of reference planes in the other direction, and replace the circle with a regular polygon of 24 sides.

Thanks.

I've made a "hybrid" profile: 90% round with the top piece flat. This way I have less profile edges in my view, it doens't make the handrail too dominant. Also the parts where my railing isn't sloped, the handrail now looks cleaner.
