Stop view with callouts from being deleted

Hi fellas!

We recently had a project where a view with a bunch of callouts was accidentily deleted (bad practice, I know...).
When the view gets deleted all the callouts also gets deleted. Is it possible to somehow stop this from happening? (Perhaps lock the view from deletion in some way I havent found yet..)

Thanks in advance!

Pinning the view and callout views will at least throw a warning before it gets deleted.

But there is no "permanent" way to lock a view to keep a user from deleting it.

Would be neat if a view could be locked the same way as worksets.

How do you pin the actual view? (example a sketch plan 1:100 where the callouts have been made)

Select the view on the sheet, and pin it.

You can pin a View just like any other element, but of course you'd have to select the view first, as opposed to selecting the cropview / viewport of the view.

To select the view:

  • open the view.
  • select the Crop Region.
  • right-click, Select All Instances In Entire Project.
  • open Filter, and check only the Views.

you now have all views of similar type to the target view selected [e.g. Sections (Building Section) ].

  • open ID's of Selection [on manage-tab]
  • make a note of the Id's.
  • try Select by ID [on manage-tab] for every ID until you find the right View.

the value of the ID of the view is probably near the value of the ID of the Crop Region of the target view.

If the message that says the other views will be deleted isn't enough to get the user to think twice before doing it, you've got bigger issues.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Hi,

for me, i usually do like that:

1. duplicate the general plan, elevation, or section that include the region of detail i want to callout

2. use scope box... that helps me crop that region

3. by that way, i create a detail without using callout directly

4. Open the plan, section, or elevation and use callout but " Reference Other View"

Sometime i also use callout for crop a detail directly but with important details as stairs, lifts, toilets... i use only scope box

( sorry if my English is not clear )

We used this "reference other view" approach in one of our projects but I felt that it got a bit out of hand after a while. Especially when details changes names and/or numbers and so on.
