Import CAD details and edit them

Hello all,

I have some details for doors in Autocad and I want to use them in Revit. I also want to be able to edit more these details in Revit.

What I did:

I imported CAD the details in Revit. All the details were all together in a 'Block' so I exploded it once.> The details were separated but in smaller blocks. (Each block contains multiple other components). In order to edit these components I exploded again but I lost some lines etc....

So this is not the best solution for me.

I tried also to make each detail a group but again in order to edit the group I need to explode it and I lose some lines...

What else can I do in order to be able to edit these details when I pass from AutoCAD to Revit?

Thank you in advance!

Explode everything in autocad before importing in Revit. Then explode in Revit.

Try this too. After you import to Revit, do full explode - not partial.

Hello,

1. Open your CAD details and change them to 0 layers then delete the Hatch pattern in the CAD file.Clean up your CAD file before importing into Revit (By this we can get single line type in Revit).

2. Then import your CAD file into Revit as mentioned in your comment some lines are missing -> Yes because in Revit minimum line length should be more than 1/32" if the line is less than 1/32" it will automatically delete those lines.
Manually we need to join the gaps.

Well it is impossible to join all of these lines in so many details.

So the only way to edit eack block is first to explode it, right?

Thank you for your time!

yes explode the blocks in CAD and mostly in some placed we cant even join the lines in Revit.

Go to manual method.
orelse if your detail is full set in AutoCAD try to link them in Revit then it works no need of rework in Revit again but usually no one prefers only at deadlines situations only.

Importing .dwgs has quite a few issues and it should be avoided. Lines less than 1/32" you've discovered. Text and leaders do not translate well or at all and that's just for starters.

Also, for each .dwg you get a set of line styles. Even if the same layers are used in every detail, you are going to get a set of line styles for each one. Best practice is to either recreate the details in Revit using any of a number of strategies or make sure to change all the entities to native Revit line styles and objects.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.
