Shape handle moving object across the plane and not changing size of family.

hi all,

 

I am creating (or trying to) a parametric family.

 

I have used ref lines instead of planes to ensure handles are available in 3D, but the handles don't seem to stretch the family, they move it along the work plane instead, and when I change the size through properties, the shape handles move along, but not the object.

 

Can someone help with this?  I have looked through the forums and tried countless solutions.

Simply edit the sketch of the extrusion. Align and lock both ends of the sketch to the correspondent reference line. Then it works. How was this supposed to work if the sketch was not related to the references?

I don't know why you're reinventing the wheel. Revit has a "Light Gauge-Angles.rfa" in the OOTB Library. Under Structural Framing=>Light Gauge Steel. 

 

Your Family has other issues that need to be corrected. But like I said, what the point if you can just load one the Library? 

 

If you are intent on fixing your Family, I would use a Sweep Extrusion - just like the OOTB Angle. 

 

...FWIW, if you just want the component to be a Generic Model, you can always recategorize the Structural Framing one that is in the Library.

Grip stretch the extrusion to meet the ref line and lock it.  Do it for all of them.

By the way, consider renaming the family to get rid of 1000 because the length is not fixed at 1000 mm any more.

guys thanks for all the help.

 

I'm relatively new to all this and had spent hours before asking for help.

 

I wasnt locking the extrusion when editing i was locking something else.
