section showing different view

When I create a section (red line in the screen)through the room and open it, instead of seeing the interior sectioned, I see the building’s exterior (green line in the screen) as if the section wasn’t made through the room but outside the building. It’s like the exterior elevation of the building, which is parallel to the section cut inside the room.

You might have probably clicked "Reference other View" option by mistake

You have to recreate it…

the option is there when I are first placing it. After you are done, you can see on the properties pallet that the section which opens is section 2 which is outside the building

This is happening because you modeled the walls as an In Place family >> Extrusion and you have used the Category Furniture

  • Furniture Category is not Cuttable
  • If you wish them to be Cut by the section line, you need to change the category to Wall or Generic Model  (See GIF below)

           Categories_Cuttable 01.gif

The question is why are you modeling them as In Place extrusions and Not Archtiecture >> Wall

If you are linking a DWG into a plan view or a section/elevation and want it to be visible in all views, make sure the "Current View Only" option is unchecked.

P.S.: Instead of importing, use linking—importing a CAD file can clutter your model with unnecessary elements.
