Revit worksets

Hi, i'm currently working on a project with someone and we want to split the project by floors. So I can only work 1st,2nd, and 3th floor and my partner will have to work the other ones , we already have the exterior model of what we want , now we need to do the interiors. Can we split the project in floor project and after we do a floor when we upload to server to get all changes in the master project?

Hello @raresh1905.

You are able to create as many worksets as you need/want.

You can break up the model and work however you want or need. There is no set rule for worksets.

This leaves a lot of flexibility to do what you need.

So yes - you can create individual worksets based on levels and have all the information in the central mode.

Once the central model is created, you can work from your local copy on your specific level and once you sync all the information will be disseminated.

Does this make sense?

Also, it will make completely clear of what worksets are, if you consider them as layers from autocad.

Hello @LisaDrago ,

Please kindle accept my apologize, i was gone for a while. I split my project in separate worksets on different levels, but it will create separate files on each level? and a central level? we are two student who work on this project and we dont have access to a lan server we use dropbox or google drive for filesharing.

after i sets the workset how do i edit each workset ?

Hello, just select the desired workset in the middle bottom of the revit window... Any created element will be placed into this workset.

I guess, it's enough to have all in one file with separate worksets for every level.

How are you going to use the dropbox for central file storage? Is it possible? Cat Indifferent For me it seems, that revit synchronization won't agree with dropbox synchronization (if not, the you had better to split levels into different files — one for every level).

Hi,

You won't be able to use dropbox or Google drive to run a central file and worksets unfortunately.  Many people have been looking for a low cost method to do this but it's still fairly elusive (TheRevitKid recently came up with a solution using a specific type of router that allowed the automatic creation of a VPN I think but again this wouldn't be feasible for your situation).

Do you both need access to edit all elements of the models or are you working on separate elements?  If it's the latter you could split your model down into separate ones and then link them together to produce your drawings.
