Revit project performance | Open duration

Hi,

How many different things effect how long a project takes to open? The project I am working in isn't that large compared to other projects, yet takes a lot longer to open. The project is local, there isn't really any CAD models in it, there isn't a lot of families, or design options, or crazy parameters. The only thing I find that is different then most other Revit models is that there is a high number of links.

Any ideas?

It does take time to load links and the more complex the link, the longer it takes to load.

Thanks. I figured links could be the problem. If that is the case, then is there a way to reduce opening times? 

There is a 2D site file CAD link. As for direct imports there is none.

Clean up the links of anything that you don't need.

These files can contain a lot of stuff that may not be needed in your project.

Yes, sometimes what should be considered regular file maintenance items can solve performance issues.

Audits, compacts, and rebuilds are done weekly through an automated system. Warnings are light. CAD file isn't anything to complicated. Nothing appears out of the ordinary compared to other projects. The number of complex links are the problem, I am pretty sure. I guess I was looking for something different or something I didn't think of.

That's nothing these days.  The sluggishness you're experiencing could also be due to a "bad" family. I've introduced families into projects that have acted like fricking boat anchors in the project.  Maybe that's where the problem lies.  Another thing, CAD in families will impact performance -- especially if its been exploded.  Maybe imported CAD used as a reference to create the Revit Family still remain in the Family.

That's it?   I've had templates that size.

I'd be questioning your workstation specs and network connection if you are having that many issues.

No linked IFC files? They are rebuilt by Revit on open (if have changed since last use) and can take a long time.

That is a good idea Ill try a family export of everything and see if there is any crazy families. Thanks

If is a connection issue. Then it is only this model. As for the workstation, that is fine, it is a pretty high end computer.

Its most likely the time it takes to load all the links.  Put your links on a workset for each link, IE  Link-MECH, Link-Struct, etc. then when you open the model  use the "selective open" feature (little arrow next to the open button). chose "select" instead of all.  then your worksets dialog box will pop up and you can close all your link worksets.  then open the project and it should open quickly.  then when you need to see the links open the worksets as needed.
