Revit 2025 can't export datasmith file?

When I try to export a datasmith file I get error message "Twinmotion is not installed" and a link where to install Twinmotion. However I don't use Twinmotion and I don't want to install a 30GB program just to export a file to unreal.

Hello,

Could you check what version of Datasmith Exporter plugin you have currently installed? I think it is because of the version. I hope it helps you.

Please mark this response as "Accept as Solution" if it answers your question. Kudos gladly accepted.

1) How do you get to that dialog box?

2) What do the addin exporters for Revit 2023 and earlier have to do with the built-in exporter in Revit 2025?

3) The OP is referring to this:

which, according to the help file (which still says Revit 2024 everywhere BTW), requires the installation of Twinmotion prior to being able to use any of the commands under the TwinMotion pulldown

1. On the twinmotion tab, which is also there in revit 2024, in which I have not installed twinmotion.

2. Nothing, because I'm talking about revit 2024 vs revit 2025. Because it's literally the same plugin.

3. Yes.

4. I caved and installed twinmotion so I could use this 0.05% functionality of it.

@Kristoffer_Webyte ,

My post wasn't in reply to your original post but intended to ask @handjonathan and @eizinmyat how and why their replies related to your post.

I've come across this with Revit 2025 as well. Revit 2024 did not have this issue. It is sad how having Twinmotion installed to export a Datasmith file is now required. For those who want to simply export the file without rendering in Twinmotion or bring into Unreal Engine, this is very unnecessary and a waste of storage. An alternative Datasmith export option should at lease be an option somewhere else within Revit that is unrelated to Twinmotion.

I wouldn't want to install Twinmotion when my workflows are for Unreal engine itself.  Unbelievable!

I cant quite understand the reason for this? like each version of Revit , the plugins are less adaptative and less usable. How is is it that something so simple got so complicated. So Many real issues to attend ( Like schedules operability , toposolid , Legends ) and they focus on changing  the things that are working properly, so that you have to install extra stuff to do the same you used to do i one click ... So actually with each update the software is becoming less usable and more irritating for the user.... I am glad they are confident that no other software can beat them.
