Revit 2022 Crashes while making changes in Material Browser

My Revit crashes when I am making changes in Material Browser, especially while duplicating a material. First it freezes and after about 10 seconds it just disappears fast. No warnings or error reporting window. Just swift crash. I've installed everything again, updates are up to date and graphics card has been updated. Using BIM360 Cloud. This has now been going on three moths or so. Any ideas what next?

Same issue @ 22.1.60.18. Crashes every time I click on the keynote / mark text box.

Sometimes could recover by killing Autodesk Material Preview Generator @ Task Manager.

I have had the same issue, I tried just about everything that was suggested. The thing that finally worked for me was to change the image file name and make sure it didn't have ( ) parentheses

Hi everyone, 

Our architects are also having this same exact issue, specifically the Material browser freezes when duplicating an item and trying to change the name of the duplicate material.

The previous workaround suggestions do NOT work for us.

This issue is NOT resolved with the 1.6 and 1.7 updates for Revit 2022, hence we have rolled back to Revit 2022 with the 1.5 update as the issue does not seem to impact our end users.

Just curious if anyone is on Revit 2022 1.5 update and has had these issues.

Lastly we also have Enscape and Py-Revit installed and it has NOT caused us to crash Revit 2022 on the 1.5 update or earlier updates going to the base release version of 2022.

Still freezing on latest 2022.1.7 (though the Release Notes showed as "resolved") while clicking on Keynote/Mark textboxes

Hi, What we did It's create a project gabarit  with 50 (generic ) material  so we just have to rename the already existing material instead of creating one, , not duplicate , and it work ,  if you duplicate , it bug,   autodesk did nothing to fix the bug as usual, 

is it fix in 2025 ? new build ? 

as there is absolutely no major improvement,in 2025 (except terran  ) we stay on 2022 for now.

nothing to do with enscape neither Py-revit, but it's easy to blame other, and expect to get out with.

I'm using Revit 2023 - When I goto my material browser I cannot edit the Mark entry in the Revit Annotation Information under the Identity Tab.  Which I kind of need to have data in, to sync with a dRofus database.
My work around is to make a material schedule (use filters to isolate your material name) and change the Mark via the schedule. No more 4-5 minute waits for Revit to start responding again from daring to click into a built-in field. While this only fixes my problem with the Material Schedule, but maybe posting this will help someone else with their issue!

In my case the app just hangs unresponsive after scrolling through the materials list and especially after trying to widen a columm in the material browser. It seems to happen more after running a search for a material like "steel".

The only solution is to close via task manager (which shows Revit processing with 10-12% CPU usage despite hung up in the background). Extremely frustrating to constantly lose work from this garbage behavior. Make the material browser run its own named thread so it can be closed independently of the main Revit application if you can't figure out what the issue is so we can at least handle the crash/freeze gracefully.
