Revit 2018 No material browser

I just startet using Revit 2018, student version. Have not tried revit before.

I found out that the material browser does not work. I cannot open the browser at all (Manage/Materials) or change any materials by using "Edit type"

Tried to repair and uninstall the Material Library but that did not work. Then I tried to reinstall the entire software. That did not help either.

I have looked at the File/options/File location, and it is the right path.

(As I know very little of software, I do not know if this information will help. But when I look at my computers local disk (c:)/Program data/autodesk/rvt 2018/librarys/Denmark and chose any of the folders there is a lot of rfa files. If I go throug revit/options/File location and choose the path, there are no files in the Denmark subfolders)

Hope someone can help me.

Sounds goodSmiley Happy

But how do I do it the right way.

  • First uninstall something?
  • Then install the other driver?
  • Then install revit 2018?

Hope someone can tell me.

Hello to you all.

Today I am very happy. Now everything works just the way it is supposed to:-)

I made a clean uninstall of the Revit 2017.

Then I downloaded the driver (353.62 version) that ToanDN recommended. After that I tried to install Revit 2018. Once again I could not install the material library.

Then I made a clean uninstall of the 2018 version, and tried to download it again to the browser. It looked like the material library was ready to download. But after I started downloading I got warnings about som temp.files missing, and nothing actually did download to/install on my pc.

I was a little frustraded...

I chose to reset my pc. After that I tried once again.

Downloaded the driver og then Revit 2018 to the browser.

And thats it. It all seems to work now.

A big THANK YOU to all you guys who kept going and actually solved the problem. I am very greatful:-)

Hello!
I've been fighting thru the same problem of many people and finally I found also my direct padron problem!
I uninstalled and installed in many different ways and saw many versions but finally I ended up in the option that I could turn on JUST the CPU graphic driver!
And suddenly worked!

So there is for sure a problem with my Nvidia driver
(GeForce 610M)

Finally I can now see the materials and later I will try to find a solution about the other graphic board...
Hope I could help with some solution that might show up in the next updates because with Revit 2017 I haven't that problem so besides a problem with my driver (probably) there's also a compability with Revit 2017 which doesn't appear in Revit 2018.

Best Regards!

Hi there

Has this issue been resolved?

I have the same issue, material browser is visible but nothing happens when i click on the ...

This happened after i updated to version 2018.3 on my Dell Precision notebook with M1000M graphics.

On my Dell Precision Dekstop PC i did not update and its working fine.

Tried 2018.3.1 but install failed, claims product is up to date

Disabled graphics, now i get a unrecoverable error the minute i open any Revit project.

Any way i can uninstall 2018.3 update?

Solution

What I have come across and from reading in the forum the graphics card seems to be the main culprit.  If i disable my Nvidia Quadro 1000M on my Dell Precision M4600 and run the intel 3000 then Material browser works.  I have been trying to find earlier driver that works but auto updates from Microsoft is my next challenge.
