Regarding AutoDesk Revit and Architecture for Mac OS

Good morning all;

Hope all is well.

Yesterday I had decided to contacted apple to find out why we architect cannot use Autodesk Revit or Architecture on Mac OS. and this is the answer that I've got.

That would be a question for Autodesk. Apple can't force third-party developers to support macOS.

I would to say that I have no personal problem using Windows but over the years of bad experiences and crash I had no choice than to change platform and since I start with Mac OS 99.9% of my issues I use to have with windows has been solved. Now my question to Autodesk but before I ask my question I would like to made it clear to Autodesk that I am not a bootleg software user I Make sure pay my subscription every month which is $400.00 USD, now please I would like to know how long we as the hundred of thousand of Architect out there who are Mac user would have to wait patiently for us to have Autodesk Architecture and Revit for Mac OS?

I think Autodesk should think of that and give us the option to use either Mac or Windows.

1. This is a User forum sponsored by Autodesk ..This is not Autodesk's Support / Customer care
2. You can find on this forum at least 10-15 posts having the same topic and discussion.
3. You are not the first to think of this, there are hundreds before you who asked the same question over the past 12 years or so and till date there are no revealed plans or leaks from Autodesk that they are working or planning to work on a MacOS Revit version
4. Hundreds of Thousands of Architects is a little bit exaggerated figure.
5. You can use Bootcamp or Paralles to run windows and subsequently Revit
6. If Autodesk found any valid commercial reasons to develop a MacOS version, I believe they wouldn't have hesitated. 
7. Before you make any purchase, you should well inform yourself of both OS and hardware requirements.

Tell you the truth Windows is a headache I really don’t see me bootcamp my mac I think Autodesk should review this and give us the option

I have never had any issues with any of the Windows build Wostations and Laptops since maybe the late 90s

Windows is perfectly fine...Headaches are caused by users and incompetent IT technicians who are not qualified to build a functional Wondows system

If your Windows crashes, it is a problem with your hardware or software. The last time my PC crashed (not just a specific application) was maybe during or even before Windows XP times. And I use it a lot at work and privately with a variety of software and hardware. 99.99999% of all computer problems are in front of the screen 😀

95% of users use Windows. So the business case to put resources into a niche OS isn't appealing. The fact that Apple switches from proprietary, to x86, to ARM etc. doesn't help the case either. windows has always been x86, so for the better or worse, there is consistency. Outside the US, Mac use is very small. I'm pretty sure someone smart at Autodesk already considered all this. If you don't like Revit, use something else. 

Yu can go to a Mac forum and learn about bootcamp to investigate if and how to run Windows for Windows-specific software on your Mac. I'm not Apple expert, but think this option is going away with their newer ARM hardware. But this a decision Apple made. Bring it up to them. 

Even if they made an Apple/ARM version, I would be afraid to hope those files work seamlessly with the Windows version.

Autodesk did make AutoCAD native for Mac. The experience you get from mac is different from PC. More people stay away from Mac and keep using PC. As well interface is different. Jumping from ribbon to traditional buttons/menu seems inconsistent for users. I've use both and have to readjust and relearn where the button goes. If Autodesk did the same with Revit, you are going to get the same issue. This is why AutoCAD Mac is a test run to see if it is worth porting all their software toward MacOS.

As well keep in mind about collaboration. If you have people running all the software on PC, you probably won't have that on Mac. So you are cripple regardless what you do. Also think about larger firms and their investment. If you suddenly change one OS to another, some of the tools develop for PC won't have the same functionality on Mac. At the end the larger firm would have to invest more time and effort to make both platform works.

Always look at your workflow and see what works best. Never fall for sexy machine which Apple often wow the user. Apple tends to hook you into their sexy machine while you don't pay attention to the software that meet your requirement. Sadly if your software don't meet your requirement, you just buy a useless machine that won't do what you want. Unfortunately those who buy into Mac wants software to work with their need rather than you don't fall for Apple propaganda advertisement trap.

Nobody was telling you that Revit is working poorly under Windows. We, as clients, want it to work under iOS too.

Autodesk it's like Facebook - it never works for user needs, all only for profit.
