Radial Array Error: Group instances of the same type...

I am trying to lay out auditorium seating on a sloping floor using a radial array. The chair is a floor based family, and the radial array worked perfectly for the chairs mounted on the flat portion of the floor, but as I try to create the array for the sloped or stepped portions of the floor I get the following error.

"Group instances of the same type do not contain identical members. Press "Fix Groups..." to select from options to make the groups consistent.
Corresponding group members in different group instances diverge in the following respects:"

I have tried pressing "Fix groups" and it appears to stack all of the chairs on top of each other.

Does anyone have a work-around or other suggestions on how to create a radial array if the Z of the object is higher than the Z of the center point?

I assume you want to keep the group & associate option checked...you can try arraying the sloped portion separately.

How much is the Z difference between the flat portion and the highest of the sloped portion?

Would it work if it was faced based? My understanding is that the issue is
related to the fact that the center of rotation is not at the same Z
elevation as the chair

the same problem occurs (chairs all stacked up in same position- just slightly rotated) when "group & associate" option is unchecked. The array for the sloped portion is separate from the array for the flat portion.

i don't have access to REVIT so I cannot test...But nesting the chair family which u have into an entourage family or a face based family (and lock it to host) might solve your problem.

it would be helpful if you provide the family and a copy of the slopped theater (copy the portion of the theater into a new project if you can't share the whole)... Then one can test and provide a screencast
