problem mirroring families

Hi forum

I'm having issues with one family that seem to shift to a different location in the mirrored plane. I'm attaching picture of the issue .

Any help will be appreciated, thanks

…hi @Anonymous

  1. You could try and modify the family. Edit the family and make sure the constraints and model is correctly locked. In you case the family flips but the center of rotation is not set to be on the center of the wall. Creating Left and Right types within the family (or even creating separate families) is preferable to mirroring when left and right versions of elements need to be scheduled separately. Using types or separate families ensures that your schedule data will always match the model.Click here to look at he family editor tools.
  2. If you want to mirror a family along the same wall face, sometimes it might cause the workplane to flip as well, so select the family`and click "flip work plane".
  3. Alternatively, you could right click on elements and "Create Similar”. This will enable you to quickly place new items in any orientation you want.
  4. Understanding the Types of families is a good starting point.
    • Face based families will attach to any face. It doesn't have to be a work plane.
    • Work plane-based families can modify their host if they are created with the new family template, Generic Model face based.rft. Families created from the template may make complex cuts in the host. Instances of these families can be placed on any surface, regardless of its orientation. You can move a work plane-based or face-based component or element to a different work plane or face.
    • Nested family A family can be created with nested components and you could nest the family to create combined family geometry.
